Latest weekly game and achievement stats for TA members
Happy Sunday everyone. I hope you are all having a fun weekend drinking Piña Coladas and getting caught in the rain. I'd like to kick off this, my third week on Stats, by...
*whisper, whisper* What? *whisper, whisper* You cannot be serious. *whisper, whisper* Get out of here, before I end you.
Hi folks, sorry about that. One of my Statisticles, Baxter, has just informed me that today is actually not Sunday - today is Tuesday - and these Stats are late.
Please accept my wholehearted apologies for being so late with this. Apparently, somebody slipped something in my Piña Colada and I slept right through the weekend and Monday.
I won't mess around with a lengthy introduction and will get right down to it. Statisticles, bring me my numbers!
This report is for the period September 3rd to September 9th 2012.
Games Started 17,039 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 26,398 games between them (1,600 different games).
After two weeks at third and second respectively, Sleeping Dogs secures the top spot in Retail Games Started this week. I would say this is an achievement and testament to the quality of the game, but then I look closer at the numbers. Despite being number one on the table, 200+ less people started Sleeping Dogs this week than last week, so it's not as if it's getting more popular. It's just that there are no other big new releases this week.
Actually, I just checked, according to our Release Calendar, there were two new retail releases this week: Everyone Sing and Port Royale 3: Pirates and Merchants. Where are they on this chart huh? Where are all the Karaoke Pirates at?
Madden NFL 13, Darksiders II and Transformers: Fall of Cybertron settle into relatively high positions, but the numbers are still way down on last week. Everyone was just biding their time till Borderlands 2, eh?
Top Retail Games Started
Mark of the Ninja sneaks its way to the top or Arcade Games Started this week and makes its mark. However, 532 starters pales in comparison to the 1,863 who started Rock Band Blitz last week.
Did you go back to school this week? If you did, my condolences. For those of us sitting at home/work, twiddling our thumbs, the Back to School sale and Deal of the Week started a download frenzy and made a big impact on the numbers this week, with The Simpsons Arcade, Alan Wake's American Nightmare, Stacking, Sonic 4: Episode II, 3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures and Rocket Riot all being sale titles that make an appearance. Phew, it would've been easier to list the titles that weren't on sale.
Of those titles, The Simpsons Arcade, Alan Wake's American Nightmare and Stacking are markedly more popular, being the 'big name' titles. Come on, guys. Where are the Sam & Max games?
Top Arcade Games Started
Galaga Legions DX (WP) was this week's new Windows Phone release, but no, you all still love rolling in your holes. However, Roll in the Hole (WP) still has less than a third of the amount of new starters than last week. Over all, this week has been really bad for new games started across all platforms.
Fusion: Sentient (WP) was this week's Deal of the Week title and makes an appearance, but barely makes a dink on the numbers.
Top Windows Phone Games Started
Games Completed 8,243 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 11,502 games between them (1,174 different games).
Have you all been enjoying building a range of abodes, from rickety huts to sprawling estates, in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's "Hearthfire" DLC? The numbers certainly suggest you have, as almost 1000 land barons blasted through the DLC within a few days of its release. Just go easy on the rent money, yeh? Those Argonians have a tough time of it as it is.
Sleeping Dogs and Mass Effect 3's "Leviathan" DLC continue to prove their ease of completion by retaining respectably high spots on the table. Meanwhile, the Borderlands completion parade continues to trail through the tables as people prepare for the imminent launch of its wub-tastic sequel, Borderlands 2.
Top Retail Games Completed
I wonder how long after the final episode of The Walking Dead is released that it will finally release its zombie-like grip on Arcade Games Completed? Probably not for a while, as I know a lot of people are holding out on starting it until all the episodes are released.
A few of those sale titles from this week also prove to be relatively easy completions, with The Simpsons Arcade, 3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures and Stacking all popping up to say hello. I doubt they'll be there next week.
Top Arcade Games Completed
When I first saw the Window Games Completed table, I shook with rage. I then picked up Stanley the Statisticle and shook him with rage. Then I realised that it wasn't actually a mistake by my loyal Ewok helpers. This wasn't last week's table; it's just almost exactly the same. Rolling. Holes. Et cetera.
Top Windows Phone Games Completed
Achievements Won 48,573 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 574,533 achievements online between them (44,786 different achievements).
DLC is the order of the week with Retail Achievements won. All the "Hearthfire" achievements for Skyrim make an appearance at the top with the easiest "Leviathan" achievements for Mass Effect 3 following shortly after.
Top Retail Achievements Won
Poor Stanley, he sure has been shaken a lot this week. Again, this table pretty much mirrors last week's, with the latest episode of The Walking Dead snagging most of the Arcade Achievements Won. The solitary achievement for the recently released "Plants VS. Zombies Table" for Pinball FX 2 also sneaks in near the bottom. However, when you look at the page for the You Have Mail achievement, as of this moment, it says that 'No tracked gamers have this Achievement'. Que? Did you all decide to give the achievement back?
Top Arcade Achievements Won
I'm beginning to have nightmares about Roll in the Hole, so ever present has it been these last couple of weeks. My nightmare involves me running down an endless hill with a giant panda rolling down behind me, always just behind, always rolling....rolling...rolling.
Top Windows Phone Achievements Won
Ok, Stanley, this isn't funny now. Are you sure this isn't last week's Genre table? No? Ok, I can see one small difference: as predicted, Music & Rhythm slips down slightly now that Rock Band Blitz numbers have dropped off.
Total TrueAchievements won by Genre
-
Action-Adventure4,911,495
I'm really, really hoping that next week sees some bigger, juicier numbers on the games started, as well as something to usurp the always walking, always rolling, The Walking Dead and Roll in the Hole from their domination.
Come on, guys. You wouldn't want to disappoint a Wookie and his Ewok helpers. |

| Roll in the Hole deserves the attention it gets; it's brilliantly simple, and fun for the price. To the 31 people who started Fusion: Sentient just because it's deal of the week however, shame on you. |

We nedd a stat for "Hardest/Highest TA Ratio Achievement Unlocked This Week".Ya, or some other random stats like a game from every year. I mean, the weekly stats will almost ALWAYS mirror what is new. But I see alot of people saying they have backlogs. I'd love to see some top games completed/started/achievements won that are from 2006 through 2010.
Seeing Mirror's Edge take the top spot or Tales of Vesperia beat out Mercenaries 2 would be an awesome topic starter and maybe even resurrect some of those games. |

I was actually tracking the unlock count over Labor Day and it looked like approximately 600 gamers unlocked Storyteller, which brings it in just under some of those completion rates for the Sleeping Dogs achievements. I'm assuming the low completion count is due to unfinished combat and predator challenges. Good luck to those still going for 100%! |

| I'd imagine the stats on the Arcade side of things next week will be nothing but alot of people going "Abobobobo" Cookie for those who get the reference. |

We nedd a stat for "Hardest/Highest TA Ratio Achievement Unlocked This Week".The difficulty with adding TA Ratio related stats is that the Ratios are always being recalculated so it is very difficult to pin down a definitive number. For instance, if someone is the first to unlock an achievement when a game comes out, it will have a very high ratio. Then it will drop down as more people unlock it. Also, if it becomes clear that the gamer highlighted by the article cheated the achievement (it's unobtainable) or they just don't want the attention of being highlighted on the front page, it could cause issues.

I'll ask the top guy if something like this would be possible. Maybe by when the first achievement unlocked? Dog had a Stats flashback to show the stats for previous years so something similar to that may be easier to implement.
Thanks for the feeback guys. As I'm relatively new to this, I'm trying to settle in these first few weeks before shaking things up. I hope my banter gives the numbers some interest and don't bore you too much. Unfortunately, this quiet release period doesn't help and the numbers are pretty repetative.
In principle I agree with what you're saying with having the occasional random stat thrown in to shake things up and I'm always looking for ways to improve the articles and keep them interesting. Feel free to PM me with your suggestions. However, some things may be difficult to implement with the way things are recorded or inappropriate for these particular articles, so bear with me as they develop. |

I think it would be really neat to see some of the top older games being completed and by who and how many. I can easily see some topics and discussions about those stats. Thanks for all the hard work Chewie. You're banter does in fact entertain when the stats themselves do not. I personally find the category "Top Retail Achievements Unlocked This Week" to be completely worthless. Almost always they are all from the same #1 game on the Retail Games Started List and all end up being a 1.05 - 1.10 TA score within a month. |

We nedd a stat for "Hardest/Highest TA Ratio Achievement Unlocked This Week".These stats have been boring for a long time. They don't really mean anything, and things like most popular achievements are just the most easy achievements from the most started games.
Also completions are just dominated by games that have released DLC.
Would much rather weekly stats like, average gamerscore per member, gamers with highest scores for the week, most completions, highest TA.
I think this could be much better than the current stats used |
