Hey all, I was just wondering what is your favorite RPG of all time?
Mine has to be one of the first ones I played, Chrono Trigger. I think that this is the only game that I replayed in its entirety like 20+ times over the years, on the SNES, on the PS1, and on an emulator (i got the original cartridge so no biggie). And when it comes out again on the DS, I'm gonna rack up some more playthroughs.

So, whats yours? |

All time is such a rouch answer since you're comparing to such a wide-array of games. I'm stuck between elder scrolls III: morrowind and shenmue.
I'm gonna have to say morrowind though. :) |

ah one of the most difficult answers of all time. I've played so many throughout my years of gaming. I would have to say...
Star Ocean for PS1 or Final Fantasy Tactics |

| I'd have to go for Baldurs Gate, ever so closely followed by Super Metroid. Two of the games in my top 5, of any genre. |

| Its a close 3 way tie, between Final Fantasy 6(used to play the co-op back in 3rd grade), Suikoden II(PS1)(if you haven't played it try and find it) and Star Ocean 2(the most customization I've seen in an rpg) |

| I've gotta agree with NightStalker. I would say a 3-way tie between Morrowind, Shenmue, and Xenogears. |

Probably Final Fantasy IX, but I'm actually playing Final Fantasy VI for the first time right now, and it does have many elements that makes it a classic. I'll give my final verdict when the world ends. |

But there are two others I like to mention.
Chrono Trigger I've never played, but is of many hailed as the greatest RPG of all time. But I just recently also got Super Mario RPG of the Wii Console Vault, which is of many others the greatest ever.
At least I can say that Squaresoft really had a good thing going. After they joined up with Enix and entered the 21st Century they gone more action-based, which personally I don't like. But on the other hand they also released Dragon Quest: The Curse of the King which was a major leap towards divineness. |
All work and no play makes Jos a dull boy. |

| I have too many favourites. Oblivion, World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, Lost Odyssey, Secret of Mana, Neverwinter Nights (have sunk hundreds of hours into that over the years), Diablo II, The Last Remnant, The World Ends With You, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy XII and Pokemon Diamond. Many more as well. |

If you had trouble with BG, try Icewind Dale first...you get to create all 6 characters at the start instead of just creating one for the whole game in Baldur's Gate. |

The best RPG in terms of story I ever played was definetly Planescape: Torment, there were several moments in that game where I got chills from reading the dialogue.
Chrono Trigger is an old favorite but I doubt it would hold up to time for me now. I loved Final Fantasy 3 with the espers and all that, I replayed that several times over and over.
I couldn't pick a favorite though, there's too many that I've enjoyed over the years. I'm bummed now that there just isn't enough time to play the RPG's as much as I would like. I'm just too busy with family and life and work and I tend to get lost in the big ones unless I play pretty consistently, which is difficult. |
