Nothing makes me more sad than seeing people play Mass Effect (or Mass Effect 2) and think its rubbish. My friend once told me of someone who had traded in GTA4 because "the driving is rubbish, you can't go round corners." I can't help but feel a deep sense of pity that these individuals are going to miss out on arguably some of greatest games there are on offer today.

However it occurred to me that someone out there is probably thinking the very same thing only about a different game. Take for example Star Wars Force Unleashed. I was on another forum where it was being compared to the likes of KOTOR and Battlefront. In my opinion that game was terrible. It suffered from bad button layout and a pop-in rate and draw distances that Playstation 1 games would be embarrassed about.

Lost Planet too, was a day one purchase for me but it was also the first game I ever traded back. I'm sure I'm not the only one who didn't like it but there were many more who did.

I do wonder whether or not I would still dislike the games if I were to go back to them now, as was the case with Assassin's Creed which is now a dearly loved franchise in my opinion.

So I'll throw it open to everyone out there, what popular games do you hate and gave 1 star to try and bring the ratings downsmile

Edit: On request from some people I have also opened it so that if there is any games that people think are appalling but you got a strange satisfaction from

I know exactly what you mean about mass effect and GTA 4 but I have to disagree with you on lost planet as you were sure somebody would. The only thing that comes to mind is what I like and enjoy playing might not be someone else's cup of tea, as with anything. I for one don't care for the multi-player on modern warfare 2, although the single player is a fun experience. But in my opinion Bad Company 2 is a much better game all around. To each their own.

I hate Half-Life. There I said it. The game was very boring to me, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
Russian Roulette is always more fun with friends.

One mans trash is another mans treasure, and vise versa.

Battlefield: Bad Company, GTA IV, Call of Duty( all of them except Big Red One, which was amazing), Gears of War.

Just a few of the most beloved games that I absolutely hate.

Lumines Live, Bomberman Act:Zero, Perfect Dark Zero

Just a few of some more hated games that I like alot.

I am actually one of those people that hated Mass Effect. Someday I may give it a go again. RPG esque games just have never drawn me.
I also only find mediocre enjoyment in Team Fortress 2, and I didn't like Bioshock that much redface

Oh and the Left 4 Dead games give me headaches so I can't play them :(

I have to admit that I hate GTA IV and I'm not sure why. I just can't bear it.

It can't be the gameplay that bothered me, because I enjoyed The Godfather which is a pretty similar style of game.

Perhaps it was the 'storyline' that was the problem:
I was already familiar with characters in the Godfather and usually enjoy early 20th century gangster films, whereas I felt no affinity with the lead character in GTA.

On the other hand, I absolutely loved Halo Wars, which the majority of people (especially Halo fans) couldn't stand.

...Call of Duty modern warfare 2. Many seem to be praising it as the god of shooters, Although I see a lackluster single player with repetitive + irritating online *having to hear other teams voices without the option to turn it off..Muting doesn't count*.

As for the opposite, I actually like Lost Planet a lot. Maybe its the 3rd person featuring grappling hook platforming + Mecha..But who knows.

I would say I despise music games and sports games, but thats more over personal preference to avoid those kind of games due to me getting bored very quick. Although, music games are more for the fact most of the songs on there I will not enjoy in the slightest. Which weighs heavily when a game is based around that.

I enjoy the Godfather games much more than GTAIV, although Godfather 2 quite short and was easily knocked out in a couple days of aggressive playing. Godfather 1 would have been the best GTA style game ever if the controls werent so clunky/goofy and the aiming system was a little cleaner. But come on the executions? Absolutely amazing. I found myself running aorund on murder execution sprees and bank robberies, only to bribe a cop and be good to ok again!

Best thing ever, driving slow down the street. Hit one of those burning barrels, it explodes catches everyone around on fire, then they run around and burn to death. Cool part the cops didn't even see that as a bad thing!

Bayonetta, such a letdown for me, really hoped for the next big Ninja Gaiden-style hacker, but it just left me disappointed. I hate that game.
Also, I won't claim to dislike MW2 as such, but i think it is quite overrated.
As for games I like that others don't seem to, I really enjoyed the most recent Bionic Commando, it was fun to play, plus it had Mike Patton's voiceover work, WIN WIN WIN!

I'm not really a fan of MW2 multiplayer. The game is great and everything but it is overrated. I once wrote a review for it on this website that just skewed the storyline and exposed it for the load of rubbish that it was and i gave it 2 stars to grab peoples attention. it got deleted after about 8 hours from so many thumbs down

I hate Gears of War. I have no clue as to why so many people play it. Horrible game play with tricky movement of the character. This is the first instalment as I've not played the 2nd and won't do either.

NFS: Carbon, Half-Life, just about every TPS there is (although GoW is slowly making it's way off that list, but I won't ever play 2 or 3), any Call of Duty game, every EA Sports game (NBA, MLB, NHL, TW, etc.).

I also did not enjoy Gears of War. I will readily admit the shooters are not my preferred genre, but it was boring for me. Ohh, there's a chainsaw on a gun, big deal, put on a helmet already. The low camera angle bothered me and I agree with the player movement being a little tricky, but honestly I was just bored playing it. As it has not been mentioned yet1, I will go ahead and state my distaste for the Halo franchise. Some of the multiplayer can be fun with friends, but that's about it for me. As a sci-fi fan, I personally find that the writing is terrible.

As for the rest of the previously mentioned games in the thread, I liked Lost Planet2, enjoyed Mass Effect and GTA IV despite their respective control annoyances, and really thought that Hexic had an overly complicated backstory tacked onto it for no good reason3.

Footnotes
1- And is sure to be what this thread devolves into in about a week
2- Especially the 90 degree turn button...why don't all shooters have this now?
3- Sarcasm on the Hexic bit
"Explain to me how drowning them wouldn't ruin their date..."
