Castlevania, on the other hand...mmm...
The score is fine. 7 is an above average number. Although to be fair these days people don't understand that and will say something like "oh it's okay, pretty meh I'll give it a 7" but I digress. My face palm was because the way I read what he said was in the manner of that opinion mattering. Especially with IGN the reviewers have become so full of themselves that they will mess with the score based on personal bias to a developer, or a single person who snubbed them and so on. Although he is obviously entitled to base what he thinks off of that I think it's ridiculous.
"Barley a 7" is what got me though. If these scores were done right 7 would be an awesome game to play. No game ever would have gotten a 10 (even Metal Gear Solid which I would murder to defend) This of course is all just my personal issue with the IGN and other sites and so on side with the industry. I didn't mean for my face palm to be insulting in any way but I stand by it lol
You're welcome to believe what you want, but I find that IGN scores are fair in my opinion. I find IGNs scores match up pretty well with the average scores on metacritic. Of course some are a bit higher and some are a bit lower, but that's what we call variance in a random variable.
My problem with the 6.8 is not that 6.8 is bad. There are plenty of enjoyable games that get a 6.8. The problem is that there are SO many games that are above a 6.8. Like, I still have a ton of games sitting on my shelf waiting to be played that I think are better than a 6.8. I still have Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon to play. I still have Rayman Legends to play. I'm working on another Skyrim playthrough where I actually get all the achievements. I've got Rayman Legends to play. I've got Dishonored DLC to play. I've got a whole stack of PS3 exclusives including The Last of Us, Uncharted 1, 2, and 3, Ni No Kuni, and Heavy Rain to Play. I have Zelda: Skyward Sword, Zelda: Wind Waker, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 to play. This isn't even scratching the surface of games that I have in my backlog that I would consider significantly better than a 6.8. That's why I'm disappointed in a 6.8. I wanted a game that was as good as all of those games, not a game that's just above average. It's hard enough to find time for all the games I have to play already that this one is probably going to be placed pretty far in the backlog.
Overall though, this was one of my most highly anticipated release days ever. I'm disappointed to see Thief only got a 6.8 though. I poked around on the internet for Castlevania reviews, and every bit I've found seems to say the LoS2 is actually kinda bad. Castlevania LoS was one of my favorite games and I was super excited for LoS2, but now I'm just super bummed out. Here's to hoping Plants vs Zombies is fantastic! Oh, also someone pulled a hit and run on my car over the weekend. I think Saturday evening while I was asleep. Just another thing to add to my disappointment
At least there was no major damage done. I'm just really sad that I spent a good amount of my own money on that car and now I have to take time out of my week to go get the tire and mirror replaced.
