So in honour of Fallout: New Vegas' hardcore/realistic difficulty I've been thinking about doing a play through of Fallout 3 with some self imposed handicaps to spice it up a bit and I'm looking for some suggestions.
-So far I've decided to use only food, water, rest and doctors to heal (no stimpacks). Only doctors to heal crippled limbs. -No V.A.T.S. -Only carry two guns and one melee weapon. Not sure what to do about an ammo limit so would greatly appreciate suggestions on that. -No fast travel. -Only carry the armour that I'm wearing and one other suit.
I'll probably regret doing this mid way through the game but it sounds like a bit of fun.
Any other suggestions/thoughts? |
Step aside. I'm a doctor! |

Maybe Switch brightness to the darkest? Remove Crosshairs? Remove HUD? |

This sounds like my idea of hell. But if it's your thing then i guess maybe sleep once per day, don't constantly move at full speed and you could carry only 2 clips worth of ammo for the 2 guns that you'll be carrying.
*2 clips worth FOR EACH OF the 2 guns you'll be carrying. |

I've come into the habit of turning off Quick Save for resting and travelling, not saving manually and only saving via sleeping, usually at my Megaton house. So yeah, could try that.
Also, don't 'wait' anywhere, only 'sleep'. |

I tend to play my RPGs like this on second or third playthroughs and I second the limited saves as an option. It makes exploration tense and death meaningful if you only allow yourself saves when you are actually in a safe location.
The fast travel is also a no go for me anyway as just using a map menu to ping about seriously impacts my enjoyment.
Why not turn it into a roleplay exercise? Ignore the quests unless they strictly fit your character and spend your time pursuing personal interests like amassing wealth or a spot of espionage. |
