That sandwich you hate for lunch? A krogan just died because of it.
Perhaps, Bioware is aiming for the "butterfly effect" with Mass Effect 3. I am betting that the hype train has just left Bioware station today. PC Zone, in their last publication, has some interesting quotes from Casey Hudson, project leader for Mass Effect 3.
We plan out the larger plot points of the story from one game to the next, but it would be impossible to plan it all in advance. More importantly, we’d never be able to plan as many creative opportunities if we’d do it all up front. Instead, we record what a player has done in a play-through, and then we have all of those choices available that writers can refer to as they build storylines.
Numerically, it’s over 1,000 variables that we’ll have access to for shaping the Mass Effect 3 experience for people who’ve played the previous games.Maybe it was just me, or perhaps it was my playing style but I did not notice many differences playing my different characters from Mass Effect 1 into Mass Effect 2. Perhaps there is a culmination across both games and it eventually builds up to over 1,000 variables.
Oh yeah, hoping that Mass Effect 2 was more experimentation and not nessecarily final game design decision? Well you lose. Mass Effect 3 will be more like Mass Effect 2 and less like Mass Effect 1. While discussing what defines an RPG, he also gave a little glimpse of how Mass Effect 3 will operate.
If you define an RPG as a game where you equip your hero by sifting through an inventory of hundreds of miscellaneous items and spend hours fiddling with numerical statistics, then Mass Effect 2 isn’t one.
In Mass Effect 2 we focused on what we love about RPGs: An awesome sense of exploration, intense combat, a deep and non-linear story that’s affected by your actions, and rich customization of your armor, weapons and appearance.
We had an overwhelmingly positive response to this approach, and while we’ll make further adjustments to it for Mass Effect 3, we’re really happy with how it’s been received so far.I am not sure about you guys out there, but planet scanning doesn't exactly scream "awesome sense of exploration."
According to reports, Mass Effect 3 is still in the early stages of development. |

Doesn't sound the least bit interesting. I loved Mass Effect 1 because it felt like an RPG, not a 3rd person shooter. That's what Mass Effect 2 and 3 sound like.
I don't know about this one. |

What about an achievement called "Reinforcements!" and the achievement description is "Have either the Krogan, the Rachni or the Geth come to your aid in the final confrontation."
This way you can get the Rachni if you saved them in ME1, the Krogan if you got Wrex and helped make clan Urdnot the most powerful in ME2 and the Geth depending on how you complete Legion's loyalty quest. |

| I hate the way they made ME2, don't get me wrong I like the challenge, but when I have to take cover on casual than we have a problem. Seriously thats why I like ME because it was fun yet slightly challenging on the higher difficultys. They better tone down the difficulty on ME3 or I will bring a reaper fleet to take out Bioware xD |

| Hopefully they stick with that claim. Mass Effect 2 was a great game, but most times you played through it, the story was all the same, and there were very few variables. |

| The more I play ME2 the more I miss the RPG features from ME1....It is a great game and I'm enjoying it, but I'm missing the features like finding good loot and different armor, etc... |

Even more of a reason to finish through my "perfect" ME1 run and continue through ME2. I want to see what happens in ME3.
I wonder if difficulty will play a part in it. |

| There is no doubt that ME2 was a far superior game than ME1. Just think of the name ROLE-PLAYING game and ask yourself which game actually did that better. I've played countless hours on pen & paper RPGs and what makes them so much better than computer RPGs is the depth of effect your actions can have on the world. Sure, stats are important, but they are only a means to an end and the more they can be put to the side lines the better an RPG story can be. Let the computer do the menial number crunching, I'd rather focus on the big stuff. |

| I love my statistics. Anyone who has seen my "My Folders" knows that. Its chock full of around 80 or so excel documents, three of which are for Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2. |

Here is what I think.
I played Mass Effect and thought it was awesome, fun and had an interesting plot. When I finished the game, I had 13 achievements out of 45. I was about level 35 out of 60. There was still loads left to do. So I replayed the thing about 4 or 5 times, 3 of which were for fun, and 2 were for difficulty specific achievements. By the end of it all I had 27 of 45 achievements, and was Level 60 so I was set for Mass Effect 2.
Fast forward a couple months, Mass Effect 2 is released. I play through this thing thinking to myself, "Wow, this is game is awesome, it has epic music, and an epic storyline!". I finished Mass Effect 2 with 46 out of 51 achievements. I was also Level 29 of 30. Sure I replayed that little extra bit to max my level and achievements, but then what? There was nothing left to do. Sure they also released DLC but to be honest I felt disappointed with them (I'm sure most other people did too).
What made Mass Effect an awesome game, apart from the story and exploration etc., was the replayability. Mass Effect 2 did NOT have that key component.
In Mass Effect 3 I want the Level cap raised, and more replayability than its predecessor.
My saves were deleted so I'm replaying both Mass Effect & Mass Effect 2 anyway. xDDD |

I wonder if difficulty will play a part in it.Ah, but how do you know what the "perfect" choices to make are when they effect a game that's not even finished yet? |
