Internet subsequently explodes with excitement
Irritational Games - the genuises behind BioShock (but not the sequel) and seminal PC classic System Shock 2 - have finally revealed their new project, entitled Bioshock Infinite. Their Project Icarus teaser site (http://www.whatisicarus.com/) has just been updated, revealing what the developer's mysterious new project is, which you can see for yourself via these gorgeous looking screenshots:

The website for the game also hosts a brief synopsis of the game's plot, which definitely sounds incredibly exciting:
BioShock Infinite is a first-person shooter currently in development at Irrational Games, the studio behind the original BioShock (which sold over 4 million units worldwide). Set in 1912, BioShock Infinite introduces an entirely new narrative and gameplay experience that lifts players out of the familiar confines of Rapture and rockets them to Columbia, an immense city in the sky.
Former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt has been sent to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman imprisoned in Columbia since childhood. Booker develops a relationship with Elizabeth, augmenting his abilities with hers so the pair may escape from a city that is literally falling from the sky. DeWitt must learn to fight foes in high-speed Sky-Line battles, engage in combat both indoors and amongst the clouds, and harness the power of dozens of new weapons and abilities.Head yourself over to http://www.whatisicarus.com/trailer.php to see the debut trailer for the guy. You may want to make sure you've got a spare pair of pants before you do though...
Edit: the trailer has since been added to GameTrailers, so I can post it directly into the news post like so: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/debut-trailer-bioshock-inf... |

I think they're milking a horse with this. And I'm not sure I care if it's Irrational's baby. It really should have stayed one game, imo.

Bioshock 2 was not the same. I had no interest in the story and felt that the whole game was half arsed just to make money from the first game's success. To add to that, all of the DLC released so far seems dull, uninteresting and pointless.
This next game could either go back to it's roots and amaze me again or it can destroy the series with more pointless gimmicks like multiplayer and single player horde. |

^^^ Reply to first post To be honest, BioShock 2 killed off all the "majesticness" that was BioShock. It's going to be pretty damn hard to redeem. |

The story bored me to death and the multiplayer is still one of the worst of any game I've ever played. |

This looks incredible! It just seems so fresh and exciting. I think I'm loving Columbia and the whole steam punk vibe already.
I'm also excited that the dude's wearing a suit. I like to look slick when I shoot people in the jaw.
However, it'll be interesting to see how they incorporate the Big Daddies, and possibly the ADAM / EVE and Little Sisters in a setting chronologically before their 'invention' in Rapture.
All in all. WOWZA. |

| You guys saying that "Bioshock 2 killed the series yadda yadda yadda" just need to be quite. FIRST, Bio2 was just a different beast than the first game. It was a more personal story instead of an epic Earth shattering one. SECOND, this is (so far) Bioshock in name only. EVERYTHING is new except the name. THIRD, Ken Levine is heading the project. |

I'm not sure how I feel about this.
Story wise- did Andrew Ryan create a city in the sky as well as under the sea? Seems strange such a place would never be mentioned through dialogue.
And if not related to BioShock and BioShock 2, does this simply mean the term 'BioShock' relates to cities in absurd locations going through riots and social collapse? Meh. |

| Should've made this an entirely new game rather than label it another Bioshock game. We don't know more of the same thing from the other two Bioshocks (with the exception of a new setting). |
