February 9th!
While Portal 2 was originally slated for a 2010 release, Valve announced just before E3 that it would be delayed until next year. The internet subsequently cried.
But today at Gamescom, Valve have just announced that the wait for the sequel won't be too much longer, shipping on February 9th, 2011!
Oddly enough though, February 9th is a Wednesday, so this may be a worldwide release date. There's no confirmation on that, but seeing as games release on a Tuesday in North America and a Friday in Europe, it seems like an odd date to choose. Unless I'm missing something? Valve have also announced that the character of Wheatley will be voiced by the co-writer of The Office and Extras and regular Ricky Gervais cohort, Stephen Merchant. The character of Wheatley is... well, remember the end of the first game, in the fight with GLaDoS, where you threw her personality cores into that burning pit? In the sequel, these cores have become independent and active beings that Chell will interact with through the story, one of which is Wheatley.
Because there's never a bad time to watch a Portal 2 trailer, here's the E3 trailer released back in June to get excited over again:

I am really looking forward to portal 2. The only thing bothering me is it going to be worth the full retail value considering Portal 1 was so short.

I want news on the next Half-Life game! I don't like the idea that Portal 2 will be an independent release, I think they should do what they did with The Orange Box

I too am wondering about the price. I will be ok with paying the usual 50-60 if it's a longer game. On the other hand, the first one was great because it knew not to overstay it's welcome and want the player wanting just a little bit more.
