Compatible with both games!
Revealed via the latest episode of GameTrailers TV, Valve have confirmed the contents and release window (heh... I know...) for the latest batch of L4D DLC, entitled "The Sacrifice."
The DLC will be released on October 5th and set you back a reasonable 560 MSP.
The greatest bit of news in this announcement is that the DLC will be compatible and playable in both Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 when it releases!
The content fills in the gap between L4D and The Passing DLC in L4D2, elaborating on the story from the perspective of the original game's characters and how they arrived in New Orleans. Unlike The Passing however, The Sacrifice will let players choose which of the original cast... you know... kicks the bucket, rather than Valve deciding for us.
Along with the new playable three-map chapter, an updated version of the original game's No Mercy campaign will be added into L4D2. You'll still play as the original cast in No Mercy, but you'll now be able to use all the bonuses that L4D2 added: melee weapons, M60s and the defibrilator.
Valve haven't forgotten about that digital comic either, teasing that it will begin next month so everyone can get up to speed with the events prior to the new campaign. The comic will be released episodically, culminating in a total of 190 pages, and with a finale that will mirror the new DLC's plot.

| If this has achievements, how will it work because wouldn't they just add the achievements to one game and not the other? |

I'm torn with this.
I don't like that we've already seen a certain character sacrifice themself (kinda) but now we get to choose? Nuh uh. I was looking forward to a real reveal of what 'really' happened. This just makes it so, I dunno, lacking. I thought it might have had a bit more depth to it :/
On the other hand, No Mercy in L4D2? Squeeeee |

GALAHAD: Look, let me go back in there and face the peril. LANCELOT: No, it's too perilous. |

While it's kinda cool they give us the choice, it does seem like the whole narrative is therefore pointless. I'm guessing maybe there was a backlash from fans unhappy about person X's death, so Valve decided it'd be better to keep everyone happy like this.
But it does seem very dumb |

If this has acheivements, does that mean achievements for both games... or... just one? :s Nevertheless, sounds rather good! I know a bunch of people have been waiting for more DLC for the original L4D, and it sounds like this it! Hopefully it's another 560msp DLC. If so, instant buy from me. |

But it does seem very dumbi do agree with you but how else would they have shown one of the survivors dead. |

| I agree 2 sets of achievements would be great. If that is the case I wouldn't mind spending 800 for it. |

| So... any achievements? I'll definitely get it anyway though. Love me some Left 4 Dead. Hopefully it'll have achievements. Left 4 Dead has always had some pretty challenging ones. (With the exception of The Passing, those were easy). |
