...But fewer than Modern Warfare 2
In an interview with VideoGamer.com, Call of Duty: Black Ops' online director Dan Hunting confirmed that party chat will be restricted in the game's multiplayer like it was in MW2.
"We have that same restriction in certain playlists where they can use party chat to exploit the game mode. For example, Search and Destroy. Search and Destroy is one of those cases where it's really critical that you don't share information with anybody on the other team because it's a very tactical, hardcore game mode."While the full list of which modes will/won't allow party chat is being kept under wraps, Bunting confirmed that the restriction will apply to fewer modes than it did in Modern Warfare 2, stating that "We've taken it out of any game mode where it doesn't make sense to have it."
It's also been specified that Team Deathmatch isn't one of those modes, so Xbox Live Parties will work as standard when playing TD online.
Call of Duty: Black Ops is scheduled for release worldwide on November 9th. |

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.Why exactly? Forcing people to listen to screaming 10 year old american boys, the joys of Call of Duty i see.
What part of this game is Treyarch's anyway? They said this was their OWN game, everything so far prooves otherwise.
@ Lv 1 Blue Slime. All developers have access to the tools that allow Party Chat blocking, they see sense and refuse to block it, at the moment.
Gaming is about having fun and messing with mates, being screamed at by children not even old enough to play the game drives me insane. Modern Warfare 1 was tolerable, get annoyed, dive into a party, now, balls to Haddock. |

S+D / Sabotage are the only game modes this should apply to. And for these cases, it's great. |

The concept of removing Party Chat works well with game modes with a respawn time - so that once you're dead, you can't aid teammates.
IW's excuse for doing it was to 'promote' teamwork - so you're forced to communicate with the team. However, we know the franchise, and nine times out of ten, your 'team' is a small selection of squealers that you mute at the beginning of the match anyway.
Feeling a bit ranty about this, despite it not bothering me - but MW2 in my opinion, was far too restrictive against a service that I was paying for, without enough justification. |

| I think the reason they take it out of S & D is obviously team commuication is key but I think a big part of that is dead team-mates being able to call-out from the grave |

The game chat is what we made it. |

but this isnt technically true. You can have you head set to private chat?
I admit I do like the idea though |

| It's a good idea for Search, but I don't see why it would be needed for any other game mode really. |

I generally mute everyone in the game because I don't want to hear the moron singing while playing, the 10 year old screaming/squealing, or the asinine inbred spouting his racist, bigoted views.
I can count on one finger the number of times someone actually used the chat properly in a shooter. |
