Chad Kroeger can shut up now.
Updated: As of yesterday, the Rock Band 3 Squier is available for pre-order at Best Buy. It seems that no one other than the US can pre-order the Squier, and the pre-sales are exclusive to Best Buy.
Original Story: Well, Chad Kroeger got his wish. The Nickelback front man can now sleep easy knowing that gamers can no longer waste their time playing fake guitars on Rock Band. Fender has come to their aid announcing the Squier for Rock Band 3.
The Squier is a real guitar that can be played on a regular amp or plugged into your Xbox 360 to jam away with your buddies on line. Fender delivered news today containing the price and release date for the new controller/guitar.
The Squier will be available on March 1st, 2011 and will set you back $279.99. I hope you plan on packing lunches for the next four months.
Quick look at the specs for The Squier are: * The Squier by Fender Stratocaster Guitar and Controller is a full-size electric guitar made up of quality Fender components, including a contoured wood body, 22-fret maple neck, steel strings, enclosed tuners, adjustable bridge and custom bridge pickup. * Elevate your rhythm gaming experience to real musical performance by learning and playing the actual notes and chords to your favorite songs to rack up the high scores! * The high-tech position-sensing fingerboard responds to your touch in real time, giving you immediate on-screen feedback. * Use the Squier by Fender Stratocaster Guitar and Controller in conjunction with Rock Band™ 3's Trainer Modes to learn scales, chords, skills, drills and more. Get the basics of real guitar down before you dive in to your favorite song! * Outside of Rock Band™ 3, plug into your favorite guitar amplifier for live performance, or use as a MIDI controller in your home recording studio.Pre-orders will be available starting on January 1st, 2011.

| That's about what I expected price wise. March means my wallet will have recovered from all the holiday stuff, so I'll probably be getting this. :) |

| I want it, but I know I'll never be able to afford it. Or rather, justify the cost. |

IMO this should be launching in a few weeks for the holidays instead of next year...
This is the first fail for HMX in my book..... |

The price for RB3 plus all the periphals is a joke. £70 for the keyboard, £110 for the guitar and £40 for the game (don't know drum price) means that they are pricing a large portion of their customers out.
I won't be getting it thats for sure. |
It was all that dweeb Hot Rod's fault. |

I'd like this, but it's sooo expensive for something I'm balls at. Sure, this will help but that's not guaranteed and daaamn that's an expensive way to maybe have it cemented that guitar isn't for me, which is the feeling I already get. |

Skipping the real point of this article, I think it's funny to read that Nickleback, back in 2008, said that kids need to not play Rock Band and Guitar Hero.
But now, in June, 2010, they released Nickleback Pack 01 for Rock Band.

The reason I love RB and GH isbecause of the plastic fairly easy to play guitars, at lest up untill now I could kid myself I was playing along quite well. This bit of kit will only serve to burst my bubble :(
It's bloody tempting though ! |

| The price on this guitar is a steal really. It doubles as a video game controller AND a real functioning guitar. Granted, I know you can buy a good starter's guitar for around $100 w/ a practice amp, gig bag, etc. but man, getting a good guitar and a game controller for $280 sure sounds good to me. |
I'm entitled to my opinion. |

Gotta admit I want but I probably wont get unless I start trying to teach myself how to play on the Squier I already own.
As for the bass question, Harmonix has said they don't plan to make one. There's a possibility depending on demand they will down the road but it's unlikely just because it will be far more limited in gameplay options than a guitar. |
