I haven't heard anything since the new map was in beta testing over the summer. I know they also beta tested the original maps, adding melee weapons and the new infected. Time will tell I suppose.. |

Quick Update Here:
As of 1/13/12 the new mutation is Gib Fest!!! Awesome, I've read a lot about this one but this is my first chance to play it. Also, as I've read in many different posts if you are trying to do the Still Something to Prove achievement this mutation supposedly makes that a lot easier to do.
Secondly, Cold Stream does not appear to be totally dead, lost or forgotten. According to the most recent blog post they are working on it for the 360.

| Gibfest does make expert a bit easier. Last Man on Earth used to be a goody as well, but they changed the format after the initial run so that multiple special infected spawn at once now. |

I found that with Gib Fest the bots do a pretty good job of taking out special infected, so as long as you are a bit careful you can solo all the levels. The tanks go down pretty quick with unlimited M60 ammo.

Quick Update Here:
As of 2/3/12 the new mutation is Hard Eight. From the L4D2 blog:
"Face eight Special Infected at one time, this is double the standard number! And if that wasn’t trouble enough, we also increase the spawning frequency so it is raining Specials."
You can find out more about it here, http://www.l4d.com/blog/.
Also there is another update on where they are at with the Cold Stream DLC. Looks like they are still prepping it for the 360 certification process.

As of 2/24/12 the new mutation is Taannkk!. From the L4D2 blog:
"Everything is coming up Taannkk!!
Scared to play Versus? Think there is too much strategy? Don’t want to embarrass yourself? Give Taannkk!! a try. We simplify everything. What does everyone spawn as? Tanks. What is trying to kill you? Tanks. Why should you keep running? Tanks. You’re welcome."
Might be kind of fun to play a total tank vs tank bash fest. More info here, http://www.14d.com/blog/.

As of 3/16/12 the new mutation is Four Swordsmen of the Apocalypse. From the L4D2 Blog:
"Four Swords against plenty of apocalypse!
Armed with only swords the survivors face near continuous streams of Special Infected ready to be sliced and diced."
Also it looks like Cold Stream really may be coming.
"DLC Date
Now that we have a solid version of the maps (some minor changes still coming), we are focused on the DLC and getting some pesky bugs out of the shipping version. As soon as we have a release date we will let you know."
Hopefully it is right around the corner!

As of 3/30/12 the new mutation is Versus Survival. From the L4D2 Blog:
"The first Survivor team sets the time. The second team tries to beat it. Then the first team tries to beat the second team's time. Then the second team tries to beat the first team's time. And then the... you get the idea. Rounds keep switching until someone fails to beat the previous time.
This is a great way to try Versus. Rounds are only as long as you can keep beating each other’s times. There are no rushing Survivors. Infected spawns get quicker as the time increases. It is mayhem filled with all the weapon perks and items. What’s not to like? Give it a try."
Sounds pretty cool to me. Also it looks like they are taking a vote for the next mutation:
"For the next mutation, do you prefer Lone Gunman or Last Man on Earth? Let us know."
I think I'd rather play Last Man on Earth. I also think I read somewhere that if you are still trying to get "Still Something To Prove" that Last Man on Earth makes it somewhat easier to achieve.

Sorry, I missed one. As of 4/13/12 the new mutation is Last Man on Earth. From the L4D2 Blog:
"You will become legend to the infected as the last human left.
You are the only Survivor left in the world. No split screen help. No Survivor bots. But don't worry you aren't entirely alone. While there are no common Infected, Special Infected will hunt you down and become close, close friends with you."

This new mutation sounds pretty cool. From the L4D2 Blog:
"Follow the Liter Scavenge one can at a time.
No more fighting over what cans to grab first. This Mutation spawns only one group of cans at a time, so survivors know exactly where to go. There is only one problem: the Infected know exactly where they are going.
This presents a different strategy from regular Scavenge mode and actually tips match in favor of the Infected."
As usual you can find more info here:

New mutation as of 5/25/12. Seems pretty cool to me. From the L4D2 Blog:
"Flu Season The smell of spit and bile in the air.
This Coop Mutation is a mashup of "Boomer Shooter" by SR69MMJC and "Spitters!" by Karma Jockey. The only specials are Boomers and Spitters. The only commons are the result of the Boomer. The only other change is we amped up everything about these two Specials. But don’t worry you’ll be okay as long as you avoid all the goo flying in the air."
Combo of fan created mutations? I'm in for it!!

New mutation as of 6/15/12. From the L4D2 Blog:
"Nightmare You’ll never see them coming
This Survival Mutation was inspired by Karma Jockey. There are commons, plenty of beefed up Specials, no glows, and lots and lots of fog. If you like to be scared by things that jump out at you from the night, this one is for you."

I don't think this one will either. Normally these kind of fan inspired mutations don't count.

Here is some news from the L4D blog that should make us who play mutations pretty happy, along with those who have been looking for Cold Stream:
"After months *cough*year*cough* of play testing not just the Cold Stream campaign on the PC but the entire DLC consisting of Blood Harvest, Crash Course, Cold Stream, Dead Air, and Death Toll, we are ready to release on the Xbox 360.
The date will be July 24th. There are some other surprises and details we will give you later but for now we just want to confirm an often requested feature. With the update going out at the same time (also for the PC), all of the mutations will be available at all times. This will allow players to choose to match into games playing Taannkk!, Gib Fest, or even a user created mutation like Confogl.
Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks as we get ready to launch."
Now you can play all mutations at all times! No more waiting weeks to get the cheevo!!
