Multiplayer beat 'em up Dungeon Fighter is all set to be Xbox Live Arcade's first ever free-to-play title, publisher Nexon has announced.
According to Siliconera, the game will be free to download but you'll then have to pay for any additional content above and beyond the basic set-up.
Microsoft Game Studios is chipping in, localising the game for France, Spain, Italy, Germany and Japan, while Nexon takes care of the English, Chinese and Korean versions.
The game first came out on PC back in 2005 and has been a huge hit in China and South Korea. An English language version launched last year but this will be the first time it's landed on a console.
No release date has been firmed up just yet, but it will be an Xbox 360 exclusive.

| I played this on the PC and it a decent game...but I don't really play much on my PC. If they are going to slap some achievements on it and throw it on XBLA, though...sure why not. |

| not the first free game(aegis wing?). but still a cool idea. i might buy some of the DLC if i like it. i wonder if more developers are going to try the same strategy. if an arcade title was free or had a very low price on the store, i'd be more willing to buy the DLC than if the game cost 1200 points. |

People are sad the game is going to be a proper beatemup (assumably) instead of an MMORPG where the people who pay the most money have the best stuff and dominate everything?

I think people are confusing the free to play model with free games.
Free to play means the initial game is free but a lot of the content is add on via dlc so to get access to the full title you pay, but the initial bit is free.
A free game is a free game like harms way or crash course.
Hope that clears things up |

Looks like it's been a while since anyone has posted in this.
The games now called Dungeon Fighter Live: Fall of Hendon Myre.

Reading into it, it sounds like it'll be less like Dungeon Fighter Online and more like a more anime-styled Castle Crashers. I was hoping more of a MMO theme to it, but I loved the game on the PC and always like a good beat em' up. I'll probably be getting this when it comes out "later this year". |
