PC rigs can be vastly different from person to person, so it's really hard to accommodate those with weaker machines but to make amazing looking games for those with more higher end hardware. Factor in how often we hear about AAA PC games performing bad at launch, optimization isn't easy especially when considering you're not dealing with one set of specifications. Now on top of everything else you want them to render the entire game map not once but twice? That's how split-screen works, the system is running the same map times the amount of people in it. Some people will have a hard enough time getting their machine just to run multiplayer with one person.
Lack of split-screen on PC is understandable.Except that this is Gears we're talking about, you know one of the best Co-Op games of all time? If someone's PC is shit and can't run split-screen that is their problem, not mine. If they need to they can adjust the graphical settings. I have my PC connected to my 42" TV and would like to play with my friends. If the the Xbox one can handle it, my PC should too.
There is no hardware limitation, only laziness by the Coalition and Microsoft.
Update: Just went on the Gears forums and apparently I'm not the only Gears fan upset about the lack of split-screen, quite a few are disappointed by this. But apparently this isn't an issue with the game so much as it may be a problem with Windows apps not supporting split-screen.
Well they can add that to the list along side of SLI and G-Sync support, as well as disabling V-Sync.
