PermalinkThe Week Ahead
Oof, it's been a long weekend. I spent a lot of time on the road, but now it's finally done and I'm back at my apartment and just...way too tired to play games.

This weekend wasn't a total loss though. I started up Doodle God (WP) on the drive on Friday and got the full 200G by the end of the night. Pretty fun game, though I did have to resort to a guide toward the end, as some of the element reactions get to be less than intuitive and more about blind luck or systematically combining things until you get a match. For 99 cents, though, you can't go wrong.

I also started up Shuffle Party (WP) on Saturday. It's pretty meh, but it's free. Most of the achievements are pretty easy. There's just a couple of tougher ones.

Shuffle Party (WP) Shop-o-holic The Shop-o-holic achievement in Shuffle Party (WP) worth 8 pointsPurchase all items in Pro Shop

Shuffle Party (WP) Challenge Master The Challenge Master achievement in Shuffle Party (WP) worth 8 pointsEarn 3 stars on all Challenge Levels.

The first of those two is just grindy. The second, however, is gonna be a bitch, as the game registers the slides as either "feather touch" or "bat out of hell." There's no real middle ground, or at least it's really tough to get a decent speed that you need to get the pucks in the right spot. Messing with the in-game calibration doesn't seem to do a damn thing either. I may play around with it a bit more, but it looks like it'll be a pain in the ass and I don't understand the low ratio.

Anyway, I'm worn out from this past weekend (or really, the week as a whole) so instead of playing games, I'm just chilling out and watching Glee on Netflix.

Speaking of Glee, I just have one achievement left in Karaoke Revolution: Glee Volume 3 that I plan to work on this week.

Karaoke Revolution: Glee Volume 3 Tons Of Dancers The Tons Of Dancers achievement in Karaoke Revolution: Glee Volume 3 worth 168 pointsEarn 10,000 or more dancers lifetime

I'm around 3,000 right now, and the number of dancers you get per song is equal to the number of perfect phrases you get, so it's a bit of a grind. Thankfully, I thoroughly enjoy playing the game, so it won't be so bad. I'll probably download most of the DLC to make it slightly less repetitive, as there's only 40 on-disc songs and the highest number of phrases in a song is Friday with 77.

What else is on the agenda this week? Well, I probably oughta pop in Just Cause 2 at some point so I can go for my random achievement. Other than that, I have a pretty full week ahead of me. Monday night I've got the premiere of our short film from the Houston 48 Hour Film Project. Tuesday I have auditions for Summer Rep. Sunday I'll be going to see a musical down in Houston. It's called "Next to Normal," and though I've never seen it before, the soundtrack is one of my favorites. I know one of the guys in it from school, and the assistant stage manager is one of my friends and the president of our APO chapter, which I'm secretary for, so that's cool.

Game-wise? Besides finishing Karaoke Revolution: Glee Volume 3 off, I plan to finally start Karaoke Revolution: American Idol Encore and hopefully get a huge chunk of it done. It shouldn't be too hard, but it'll be a bit of a grind. Even more than the second one was. I mean, just look at this achievement:

Karaoke Revolution: American Idol Encore Dedication The Dedication achievement in Karaoke Revolution: American Idol Encore worth 378 pointsScore 50 million points (cumulative in any mode)

When you consider that a perfect score in a song is only 100,000, yeah. The 25 mil achievement in the second game was a hell of a grid. This is twice as long. But now I have a turbo controller to make it a bit more bearable.

Did I say turbo controller? I meant fight stick with turbo functionality. Yeah, I broke down and bought a fight stick about a week ago in the hopes that it might make increasing my completion percentage in Street Fighter IV and Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe a bit easier. So I'll probably pop those games in for a bit this week.

What else...oh yeah. In an effort to keep toward the top of the Music & Rhythm genre leaderboards, I picked up a copy of Disney Sing It: High School Musical 3 for $4. I'm going to attempt to get the 1000G in this game without trying to strangle myself with the microphone cord. Wish me luck.

I may also grind out a few more DJ Hero 2 achievements that I've been putting off. Not any of the really hard ones that I have no chance at getting or the XBL stuff. Mainly just things that can be done with two turntables or the vox stuff.

Finally, I'm in a session on Saturday to get this:

Army of Two: The 40th Day Secret Achievement The Secret Achievement achievement in Army of Two: The 40th Day worth 240 pointsContinue playing to unlock this secret achievement.

I've been slowly working on the XBL achievements for this game, since it's an EA game that's been out for over 2 years, so who knows when they'll decide to pull the plug. I've only got 3 left, so I'm hoping to get them done before the summer's out.

So, that's the plan for this week. Will I stick to it? Probably not. But it's a goal at least.

Anyway, back to watching Glee. You know the best thing about rewatching season one on Netflix? No 4-month hiatus this time around.

I need a catchphrase!

PermalinkWeekend Off
Tomorrow I'll be off to my grandmother's house in Louisiana, so I'll be sans Xbox for a few days. This means I probably won't be finishing my random achievement until next week. Luckily, I'll have my Windows Phone on me, so I'll probably be earning achievements during the car ride. Maybe I'll drop $7 on Final Fantasy to keep me busy.

I'm sure that all one of you will be greatly disappointed.

Until next week, I need a catchphrase!

PermalinkRandom Achievement #2
Last night I booted up YDKJ and played Jack Pack 4, episode 6. After question 8, bam. Achievement get.

You Don't Know Jack Animal Husband The Animal Husband achievement in You Don't Know Jack worth 48 pointsGet 3 animal questions correct in JACK Pack 4

That was a pretty easy one. I also took the time to finish playing the rest of the Jack Pack 4 episodes. I missed three of the Wrong Answers of the Game, so I gotta go back to those to get the last DLC achievement.

Anywho, let's go for another random achievement. Right now, I'm at my dad's house, so I'm going to have to limit it to games I actually have with me. Can't go after an achievement if I can't play the game, right?

So, Wheel of Morality, turn, turn, turn. Tell us the lesson that we should learn.

Just Cause 2 Secret Achievement The Secret Achievement achievement in Just Cause 2 worth 75 pointsContinue playing to unlock this secret achievement.

Guess it's a good thing I picked up a copy of this game recently, huh? A quick glance at the achievements shows that I've already completed story mission 3, so hopefully this won't be too time consuming.

Until next time, I need a catchphrase!

Ok, I'm going to give this random achievement thing another go. Let's see if the random achievement gods are a bit kinder to me this time.

You Don't Know Jack Animal Husband The Animal Husband achievement in You Don't Know Jack worth 48 pointsGet 3 animal questions correct in JACK Pack 4

Awesome. Now we're being reasonable. So, I will now be working toward this achievement. Should be pretty easy, so I may be back for another random achievement by the end of the night.

PermalinkRandom Achievement
So, I'm sitting here, bored, with nothing to do. Usually, that means it's time to play a game. But what game should I play? Isn't that always the million dollar question? I want to play something I've already got on my card so I can increase my completion percentage. How to decide?

Well, recently I've seen several people come up with the idea in their blogs to use the "Add random achievement" function of the To-Do List in order to find what achievement they'll go for next. I think this is a pretty cool idea, so I'm going to give this a try.

However, if it's an achievement that I know I'm not skilled enough to do, I'll probably try again. Also, I'll probably throw out anything multiplayer so I don't have to go scrambling for a boosting partner. Then of course there's the occasional achievement that would happen to be the last possible one to get in a 50+ hour game, which I'm not looking for that kind of commitment at the moment.

Anyway, all that aside, let's see what comes up first...

Fallout 3 Take it Back! The Take it Back! achievement in Fallout 3 worth 52 pointsCompleted "Take it Back!"

Well, there's that "last achievement in a really long game" clause in action already. Let's try again...

Assassin's Creed Secret Achievement The Secret Achievement achievement in Assassin's Creed worth 65 pointsContinue playing to unlock this secret achievement.

Are you kidding me? Another end-of-game achievement? No thanks...

Create We Love 284 The We Love 284 achievement in Create worth 82 pointsCollect 284 Sparks

Dammit, random achievement button! I don't have time for that at the moment either!

Beyond Good & Evil HD Project Apollo The Project Apollo achievement in Beyond Good & Evil HD worth 16 pointsPilot the spaceship to the moon

YOU ARE KILLING ME, RANDOM ACHIEVEMENT BUTTON!

Full House Poker Ding! Top Dog! The Ding! Top Dog! achievement in Full House Poker worth 36 pointsLevel up to 50

I'm gonna go cry in a corner now...

Left 4 Dead 2 DEAD IN THE WATER The DEAD IN THE WATER achievement in Left 4 Dead 2 worth 28 pointsKill 10 swampy Mudmen while they are in the water.

Great! This is more what I was looking for!

...Except I don't actually own this game...

Catherine Secret Achievement The Secret Achievement achievement in Catherine worth 769 pointsContinue playing to unlock this secret achievement.

You know what? Fuck this. This was a terrible idea.
