Day #30 - No more jelly labs!!!Permalink
Monday 30th March 2015

Back today with a more insightful and meaningful blog. As you will see I was quite pleased with my progress...

Despicable Me Minion Rush - 2 achievements for 40 gamerscore (x2 200/200)

YES I finally made it happen. After spending 30 pounds of my hard earned money and 56 hours of game time I finally finished off Despicable Me: Minion Rush (WP) and the stacked Despicable Me: Minion Rush (Windows). I had about 30 levels left to do and decided that I wanted it done so a few hours in bed over the morning and I was finished. Was worried that the achievements wouldn't pop but both did as expected to my relief.

The windows phone version having a 12.6 ratio has meant it is now my highest scoring ratio achievement which is quite rewarding. I am glad this ordeal is over and I shall be very careful about what Gameloft free to play games I start in the future. I've said enough about the game in previous blogs so no need to elaborate again. Done and dusted, moving on!

Deer Hunter 3D - 18 achievements for 165 gamerscore (165/200)

The afternoon sort of flew by with me playing with girlfriends boy and stuff so before I knew it the day was getting nearer the end and I hadn't felt like I had gamed much. I contemplated starting a new Xbox 360 or Xbox One game but eventually chose to be with the other two as they watched a film and I chose to start Deer Hunter 3D (WP) on my Windows Phone. I believe I bought this years ago in a sale and never got round to playing it. I was unaware that is is a rather quick completion. I say that there is this glitched achievement which nobody has unlocked.

I try not to let unachievable achievements put me off playing the game though so I went ahead and started it knowing full well I'll never have it fully complete. But yeah as I was saying, I discovered it is actually quick and quite fun to play. It is kept simple and efficient as all you need to do is follow some footsteps to meet the animals and then just move the reticle over the intended target and shoot. No need to walk around and chase the animals as you just back up to your GPS and easily bump in to them again. I played Cabela's African Safari 3 and a half years ago as an easy completion for the GTASC and did overall enjoy it. It was the tracking of the animals that made it frustrating at times and I worried this game I was playing now would have same issues made worse with it being on a phone. So I was pleased with the simplicity as I have managed to get 18 of the 19 available achievements in just a few hours of gaming. Wasn't sure if I wanted to but glad I did in the end as had a short grind at the end to fully level up and get this achievement.

So there's still one achievement left I could get but am not keen to do so. Why? Because you have to play the game on a Sunday... This is because apparently that's the only time when the turkeys (which I need to kill 100 of) are actually around to be seen on the levels. I spent a short time thinking about if I want to bother with getting this as there is the time glitch technique of changing date on your phone to a Sunday and so forth but as I am still missing three achievements from Make It Rain: The Love of Money (WP) due to messing around with dates I am reluctant to bother to try. I am never going to complete the game anyway so I might as well just leave another achievement too right? Not as if my completion percentage will ever get in the 99%+ range anyway for 1 achievement to make a difference.

To continue doing the daily blog?

So just thought I would add my thoughts on my daily blog here quickly to see what people think to it. I originally planned to do 100 days of it but then after a week or two decided to see it through for a month and then decide. Truth is I do enjoy re-capping about what I've been up to and hope others enjoy reading but it can become a chore at times, especially last week as I worked four long shifts in four days and finding the time was tricky. I also wonder about doing more formatting or pic/vids of what I have been playing to try and make it easier on the eye to enjoy. I read other blogs on here myself and when it's just walls and walls of text I find myself skimming and missing bits. Maybe a screenshot or two of the games I've been playing would be a good idea, let me know! Anyway I think I will keep going with the daily blog for now but we shall see.

Day #29 - Streak's still goingPermalink
Sunday 29th March 2015

As I stated in previous post I was in London skateboarding for the day so no gaming was done. Was a simple case of booting up Just Dance 2015 and popping an easy achievement to keep the streak going.

As I have nothing else to say I will leave you with a link below of me and the two other instructors I was with skating a rail after we finished our skateboard birthday party. Next blog will definitely be better, mark my words!

Day #28 - Keeping the streak alivePermalink
Saturday 28th March 2015

Just got home from a day in London, was crazy having me and two other instructors to control 30 kids at a skateboard birthday party. Yes the location did have some cover but not enough to stop the crazy rain from making its way in. We had to resort to party games and prancing around to entertain the kids lol it was quite surreal.

Anyway I didn't really get to game yesterday, I got in from work and only gamed on my phone. I didn't really have an achievement in mind to keep the streak alive so I booted up Angry Birds Star Wars II (WP) which I hadn't played in months and was delighted to pop an achievement just after a couple of bird flings. I say bird I mean Yoda flings lol.

I doubt my next blog tomorrow will be very good either as I have not played anything today either. Maybe I will think of a topic to discuss or something to try and keep this blog entertaining enough to keep people coming back to.

Day #27 - Furiously fast 1000 gamerscorePermalink
Friday 27th March 2015

Yes four days off work! Just got home from a ten hour shift feeling great knowing I have time off at last to get back on my Xbox properly. I am going to London tomorrow for skateboard lessons but should be able to game nevertheless. Doubt I will game much for the rest of today, however I did game a lot yesterday on a day off so lets get to it!

Ryse: Son of Rome - 2 achievements for 150 gamerscore (935/2000)

So I noticed at one point that my gamerscore was off. If you asked me on the spot "What is the total amount of your gamerscore?" I would probably not give you the correct answer however I should be able to round to nearest thousand and say that. However I was correct in noticing that my gamerscore was off as I remembered looking at it the day before and thinking I had been in the 500 to 600 point range for days due to working and just popping one achievement a day to keep the streak alive. So I scrolled down on TA and sure enough saw two achievements had popped from Ryse: Son of Rome Achievements without me even playing the game! This must be a no DLC/DLC owned completionists nightmare. Turns out that the game had achievements added in regards to just the standard experience gained from going through the story. I mean I bought Ryse: Son of Rome Achievements as a launch title as was quite hyped with it but sold it after a few months because I knew I wouldn't go back to it. DLC has come out since but never have achievements popped for me like this. I do wonder if it is a sign of things to come, probably not but you never know. I think the title will go free with Games with Gold eventually so am going to hold off buying it again unless I find it dirt cheap. The Xbox One has been out now for about a year and a half and I think I still find this game to be my favourite on the console. It looks beautiful, gameplay is great and was quite impressed with the multiplayer. Looking forwarding to playing this again one day, maybe I will try finish it on Legendary.

Kinectimals Unleashed - 0 achievements for 0 gamerscore (0/200)

Yes that's right, I got no achievements at all. You may be expecting me to say now that I only played it for a few minutes but nope, I must have spent a few hours on the game yet didn't pop a single achievement. A friend of mine BemusedBox asked me if I would be interested in starting the game Kinectimals Unleashed (WP) Achievements as you can gift each other gems daily to help out due to its free to play nature. I found the other two games Kinectimals Achievements and Kinectimals (WP) Achievements to be decent games so have been interested in starting Unleashed for a while. This gave me the push to do so. It does look like quite a grind though and I am already starting to bore at the mundane task of throwing a frisbee or ball for them to catch over and over again to level up. The challenges are more fun. My girlfriend also started the game alongside me as did her boy (her on her phone and him on our tablet) so in theory I will be able to get another 2 gems extra a day from them which is nice. Wont say anything else on the game for now as it is still early days.

Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious - 25 achievements for 1000 gamerscore (1000/1000

I barely got out of bed yesterday, mainly due to playing on my phone and being able to download JJBDude48's achievements in Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious (Xbox 360) digitally for free. I saw how it was an easy completion and couldn't resist playing despite having a thought in the back of my mind saying I should hold it off for when I need it in the GTASC. I have seen comments where people said they finished it in 90 minutes or two hours, well I took around three I think. There was a couple of times when I had to do a race again and at one point I was stuck trying to get the next mission so ended up wasting time doing extra objectives that are not required for the completion. Nevertheless it is very quick and easy to do, so what do I think of it all?

Firstly I am not hating on this concept. Free game with free achievements that stack, overall a win win in my book. However the game really isn't all that good as it's pretty much just an expanded demo of Forza Horizon. There is basically nothing about Fast and Furious in the game, heck if it wasn't for the title I wouldn't have even realised there was anything about the game that related to the film franchise. It is just a clever ploy for the company to get their name out their a little bit more for hype of the new film being released shortly. I haven't played Forza Horizon 2 but I can imagine this game has just taken the backbone of what's already available in that title and covered it with a new paint job and name for this. The story is rubbish and the graphics looked poor which I must say surprises me as I played Forza Horizon Achievements and thought it was a beautiful game. Either my standards have raised severely due to the next generation or this game just does have poor graphics. I was getting bored towards the end but knew I should just push through to the end to get it over and done with.

So ultimately do I think this was a good idea? I have mixed feelings. I think it is a great idea to take a good franchise like the Forza one and give it some DLC for something like Fast and Furious, the idea is better than creating a whole new Fast and Furious game that bombs at retail. However this example is just not good enough. They should put a bit more effort in, make it feel more unique instead of just being like Forza Horizon 2 (Xbox 360) Achievements. Heck if somebody walked in they would think you were playing that game. They could charge £5 for it, even if it only was a few hours long. They would hopefully break even on the investment made to make the product plus help build the reputation of the franchise and then hopefully encourage people to spend money and buy a proper Forza game. So yeah, I think this good be a good concept I encourage other developers to try but hopefully they'll put a bit more time in to make the final product stand out a bit more with a unique flair.

Day #26 - Games with Gold excitementPermalink
Thursday 26th March 2015

After the previous dismal blog I am back with vengeance today. I don't have anything to say on the gaming front because of work, instead I booted up Just Dance 2015 and got a quick achievement to keep the streak alive. Why this achievement has a ratio of 3.07 is crazy as all you need to do is pick the song 3 times in a row. No need to dance to it, I let it play in background as I was in the kitchen lol

Games with Gold for April

On my break at work though I read about the Games with Gold for April. The announcement of the games going free is always a highlight of the month for me and as the days get closer to the end I eagerly anticipate finding out what will be available to us. April is exciting for me with 5 of the 6 titles being ones I don't own which is a great success! So I will list them below and give my thoughts on the decision and the likelihood of me actually getting around to playing them.

Army of TWO: The Devil's Cartel - TA score on this is slow so probably a simple completion which is always good news to me. I did boost the original Army of TWO back when the servers went down and I thought the game did seem really good. The franchise is not heralded as a big AAA one but neither does it get criticised as being poor either. I have a slight OCD at playing games in order though so doubt I will get round to this anytime soon. I do also own Army of TWO: The 40th Day which is great as it will mean I now have the collection.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (Xbox 360) - This surprises me a bit as I was sure it would be free on the Xbox One due to how cheap it is from all the bundle codes that were never redeemed and instead sold on over the holidays just gone. It's a franchise I am definitely keen to get in to at some point so I definitely welcome this as a free title, even better on the 360 as it's cheaper to get on the One if I ever fancied a stack. My girlfriend has also been enjoying Tomb Raider: Underworld recently and was curious to know what other games she would like out of my collection. I thought an Assassin's Creed title would be a great option so I may get her to try this.

Child of Light - Quite pleased with this one being chosen as I turned down the opportunity to buy it when it was on offer before. These types of games are not my favourite but playing an RPG here and there is fun in my books. This one doesn't seem like a well long grind either so thumbs up from me to Microsoft on this decision!

Gears of War: Judgment - This one does surprise me a bit as from what I heard it was not well received. Friends I know that love Gears have chosen to play Gears of War 3 instead of sticking to Judgment as they find it a superior game. It's an odd decision I think but could be a good one. There may be people that just didn't fancy paying for it but would happily play for free. As for myself I doubt I ever will as I still need to play the other 3 Gears and I'm not too keen on them anyway. We shall see.

Pool Nation FX - Can never complain about a new release as it means you are not missing out as you never owned it previously. I struggle with the difficulty on Pool and Snooker games so not sure how I will be in regards to playing this. Will not comment on it yet however it is probably a decent inclusion for Games with Gold due to it being a unique title and not a generic shooter.

Terraria (Xbox 360) - This is the title I already owned. It has been on sale a few times but I finally caved in the last sale and bought it for £2.39 and have yet to play it. Not too sure if I will enjoy the game really but I've heard lots of great things so I made my decision to buy it. Am sure lots of people are happy about this one.
