I remember the first time i played this game, summer of '07 at a friend's house, skeptical at first, I thought the game was lame and my friend looked ridiculous mashing buttons on a plastic guitar. When he asked me to play I figured I'd give it a try. I have been addicted to Guitar Hero ever since.

This is the game that started the huge craze for music games, as the co-op mode in this game transpired from Harmonix to what is now known as Rock Band.

But before Rock Band, this was the only music game available on the 360. In just over 2 short years there are now 12 if you include Rock Bands track packs, popularity of this game was the start of that.

But now on to the game, I will treasure this game for all eternity, everything about this game was fun. The setlist, even if they were covers, was a blast to play. Jammin' out on Freebird is one of the most fun things to do in any Guitar Hero game. Good for expert and casual players alike, the expert mode here doesn't make people smash their plastic instruments (with the exception of Jordan).

There isn't really anything poorly done with the game on Harmonix's part. They simply put out a great game that will be loved by Guitar Hero players forever. If you have been playing and enjoying the newer GH titles, and never played this one, immediately stop reading my review and buy this game. The 60 bucks I spent on this game was well worth it and now with a price tag of anywhere from 15-30 bucks the game basically pays for itself.

Now with Harmonix outdoing Activision in pretty much everything, better games, better music, more master tracks, better timing with their new release dates, and MUCH better DLC, this is a game us Guitar Hero vets can look upon and enjoy before Activision royally screwed the franchise and is on the verge of running it into the ground.

Guitar Hero II is one of the best ports of a game I've ever played, especially a port from a previous generation (PlayStation 2). The graphics and sound quality are dramatically improved, there are achievements to be earned, more songs to play, and an improved venue system that does a much better job with difficulty progression. I would actually recommend buying this version of the game to replace your PS2 copy, as it's a far superior experience.
Out of all the many sequels this series of plastic guitars has spawned, this game still has my favorite soundtrack. Unfortunately, with the exception of the bonus songs, the new Xbox 360 songs, and a couple of the PS2's songs, the songs are all covers. And I wouldn't recommend getting this game with the guitar included as you'll be stuck with a controller that's corded, unlike its wireless offspring found in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (my favorite guitar controller to date), Guitar Hero: World Tour, and the upcoming Guitar Hero 5. Also, no singing, drumming, online play, or co-op career. The downloadable content is fairly weak too, seeing as they're three-packs of songs from the original PS2 Guitar Hero (all covers). But keep in mind the game is the first of its kind for the 360. And you still can do co-op (or competition) one song at a time.
Guitar Hero II remains to be the one music game that feels more like a GAME and less like... WORK. When Harmonix left the series to make Rock Band, they got a little carried away with the career mode that I have yet to complete after owning for more than two years. And the Guitar Hero series has lost some of its appeal, not only ripping off Rock Band's implementation of vocals and drums in a music game but heavily catering to real-life rock stars such as Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Hendrix, Aerosmith, and more (I thought the point of the game was to BE a rock star, not somebody's opening act). So enjoy a classic rhythm game, and good luck with Jordan.
