my first review of a game...

I will preface this by saying that i played tennis in middleschool and highschool and tournament throughout those summers. I was a tennis player.

If you like tennis then this game is not bad and you will like it.

Career mode: The career is fine. you play small tournaments to get a higher ranking, you go train with a coach to get better at serves/forehand/overhead/etc, you play quilifiers, and you play majors. the overall goal is to make it to the #1 world ranking. If you have played tennis and know basic strategy on how to play then the career will be easy for you to beat. you are also able to save and sim during tournaments so that you can skip past easy matches and retry matches if you are going to lose.

The career mode can be fun, and the play looks pretty close to how it looks on tv. they did a fairly good job with this game.

6/10

Online play: The play online is just about the same as the play during the career mode except for most of the players playing will be using slightly different strategy than the computers. some players will get really good at trick shots and passing shots and it can be really tough to beat some people. look to play somebody near your ranking and you will have a fun time playing.

7/10

Sound/Music: the sounds associated with tennis were just fine, the music was like most other video games from 5 years ago, not so good.

5/10

Achievements: None of the achievements in this game are overly hard. you will get most of them by playing through the career mode. its been a couple years since i played this but these achievements will take time. the career will take you 20-35 hours.

you can still play online and i just checked today and there were at least enough people online for me to get a match.

Overall with time and a little bit of effort you can get all of the achievements in this game. it would be possibly to play 2 hours a day and have this game done in under a month no problem at all.

8/10

i give it an 8 because the achievements are all fairly easy to get, nothing crazy that only pros could get but knocked off a point because this game should take easily 20-60 hours to finish.

Overall: i will give this game a 7/10

I liked the game and had fun with it, if you are a tennis player you will like it even more. all of the achievements are fairly easy to get they will just take some time. its not like gears of war in that it will take you a year to get them all and its not like avatar in that it will take 2 minutes, but you should be able to finish the game in under a month with a few hours a day max.

I feel this is one of the better Tennis games out there. TopSpin 3 is not as fun and the achievements in this are really not bad but you get a lot of points which is a plus! If you liked Virtua Tennis this is right up your alley. Never thought I would have this much fun playing a tennis games. Even better playing local matches with your friends. Controls are pretty straight forward too.
The A button triggers the safe swing, which is your most straightforward swing. It's often your go-to swing, because no matter how hard you tilt the left analog stick while stepping up to your swing, the shot will never, ever go out of bounds, while the other three shot types require a bit more finesse to keep inside the lines. The X button nets you a slice shot, which flies low and fast and is great for crossing up your opponent, while the B button delivers a topspin shot that flies straight and bounces high but moves fast and can slip right past opponents who aren't on their toes. The Y button is used for lob shots, which are to be used sparingly but can be very potent against aggressive opponents apt to ride the net. You can add trick shots and risk shots which make the game a lot more fun and actually makes shots more difficult giving your newb friends a chance.
