Aight lets start with the first fact, "I'm a huge Star Trek fan...not a Trekkie...but huge fan!" (IF YOU ARE A TREKKIE READ THIS REVIEW BEFORE YOU BUY THIS GAME)
Now I've played every Star Trek game from the first computer one that was less than a Megabyte in size, to the NES and Gameboy/Gamegear, to Star Trek Armada and this one. I can go on forever on a list of Star Trek games out there. I was really looking forward to this game, but sadly I have to say this is one of the worst of them all...and yet I can't stop playing it. So here is the breakdown:
Graphics (4/10) This is being a little generous. The ship detail and graphics are pretty good...and that is it. The space graphics, planets, and etc. just plain suck! Hate to say it, but it's true. Quite often there are graphics glitches to go along with their suckiness. And destroying ships just plain looks like garbage. Also you can play bumper cars with the ships out there and nothing happens, no damage, nothing.
Controls (3/10) Considering you have to control multiple ships I see how this can be hard coming up with a control system. Although telling your ships where to go and selecting them really isn't hard...they don't always do what you say lol! You tell your ship to destroy and asteroid in (X) location and your ship goes into warp in the complete opposite direction. Flying your ship isn't that bad, it just can be glitchy when you want to go vertically through space rather than horizontally. Also when you get around planets your ship goes into Spaz mode sometimes and your controls don't respond very well.
Story Mode (2/10) Very Very short. The Next Generation era only has 5 missions; which is probably the era you want to play most! There are 15 missions in the game total. You can seriously blow through campaign on Ensign difficulty in just a few hours. Admiral difficulty is almost impossible. Some people have done it, but you better have a lot of patience and like playing "cat and mouse" for about 100 hours. The storyline pretty much bit. I think a 12 yr old Trekkie with a type writer wrote the script. I have no earthly idea why all the actors from the Shows/Movies actually did the voices for this game.
Online Play (5/10) It's OK. This first couple times are fun, then it gets to be the same old thing. There is always some Jack Knob who picks the Borg. Not many people play online anymore if ever in the past. Not many maps to choose from either.
Sound Quality (4/10) They definitely could have done more sound wise. No red alert sound, no "all hands abandon ship", no chatter between anyone on the ship, like an engineer screaming "I just can't do it Captain...I don't...have...the power!" You get the phaser and torpedo sounds, and the sound of your ship getting torpedoed, and that's it.
Ship Variety (10/10) There is a great variety of ships to choose from. You can play multiplayer as Star Fleet, Klingon, Romulan, or Borg.
So overall I give a 2 out of 5 stars. Only because I am a fan. If you are not a Star Trek fan, avoid this game...you may use the disc as a coaster or Frisbee! The achievements are worth a good amount of points, only because everyone put it in their console then returned it!
Suggested Retail Value: $6.99 - $9.99
Actual Retail Value: $19.99 http://www.gamestop.com/Catalo/ProductDetails.aspx?product_i...
This only recently went down to $19.99. A month ago it was $29.99. Regardless, it is overpriced and not a lot of bang for your buck.

Star Trek: Legacy is a great fan service to Trekkies. However, it is far from flawless. It is essentially a space shooter that has been updated to today's standards, while at the same time creating the feel of commanding your own Starship; something any Trek fan has wanted to do. It's completely opinion-based whether or not you will like this game, because it's genre can not be easily defined. I could quite easily be called an RTS, space-shooter, flight simulator, and the ever-so-generic action-adventure game. Since my belief is that this game is strictly opinion-based when it comes to if it is 'good' or not, I will try to present to you the facts, so you can make your own decision as to whether or not it will be worth your time. If you a a die-hard Trek fan, buy this game, the storyline is similar in feel to a TNG or Voyager episodes. I'm not going to touch on any of the details, but you will be brought through all of the main eras of Starfleet, and I felt like I was a part of the history of the Trek Universe. In terms of graphics, they are lacklustre. The ships you pilot are detailed and get the job done quite well. Unfortunately, that is the extent of positivity that I can provide in this department. The environments are very low in quality, they seem to have been patched together quickly and with little thought. The thought process seems to have been, “Put a nebula here, an asteroid there, and a star over yonder.” It is disappointing to say the least. There was not much to design either, all that needs to be created is your ship, and where your ship is. They managed to get one right, but not the other. Next is gameplay, oh my... where to begin. It is indefinable. If you have played Star Trek: Online, you will be able to grasp the general concept. If you are a person on this planet, it is likely you have seen at least part of a Star Trek episode (the particular series does not matter) where a bunch of ships are blasting the s**t out of each other. This is what you will primarily be doing in this game. However, it's not like you can just point and shoot; these are Star Trek vessels, remember? One needs to know the capabilities of your own ship and the enemy ships. Guerrilla warfare, however, can take most of the strategy out of the game. This is because you are able to fully repair all of your ships to maximum capability by simply running away, repairing, and returning to the fight. The enemies will follow you for a short time, but eventually just give up. You can play in other ways, but this is the most efficient in my eyes, because the time spent restarting missions due to lost ships is a lot most cumbersome than playing it slow and careful. The general formula though for combat does remain the same: Fire phasers = lower shields then... Fire torpedoes = destroy enemy Even though is seems repetitive, the game progressively improves the capabilities of your ship, and provides a wide variety of enemies from different races with different levels of AI difficulty, design, and threat-level. Once you get a feel for how the game works, it becomes pretty natural. Sadly, this is one of those games that decided to add a multiplayer mode; when it is far from necessary. The single player games is solid, and works well for the most part. I will never understand why developers think that multiplayer is so important to every game. I understand they hope to increase sales with such a feature, but games like this should never be brought online. There are framerate issues, lack of any progression system, and no customization. Of course, since this is such an obscure game, you will never find a match unless you are boosting through the gaming miracle that is TrueAchievements <3. On to my favourite aspect of this game, the achievements. Personally, I am surprised by the low completion percentage (4.07% as for writing this review on March 8th, 2013). This is probably because the game is very off-putting early on, and most people would not want to continue. Like I said, this game is only for hardcore Trekkies and those who want a unique, but mildly flawed gameplay mechanics. The multiplayer achievements can literally be done in one, twenty minute gaming session, requiring only one other person. The single player achievements can all be done in a minimum of one playthrough, but two playthroughs are highly more realistic. The more tricky one are playing through on the highest difficulty (“Admiral”) and making sure that you do not loose any vessels during each individual era. Keeping a guerrilla warfare tactic in mind, makes it much easier to master the more stubborn encounters. Overall, it's a decent game, and a low-to-medium difficulty to 100%. I suggest this game for those who are not critical, and those who want to experience a distinct and obscure Star Trek story.

This game is for all Star Trek fans. The online play needs a lot of work but the campiagn is great. If you dare to put this epic game on its hardest level you will find very quickly it is no push over. Get a few friends to play horde with youand may find yourself overrun by borg cubes. Believe me it never gets old blowing up borg ships you can have fun for days. I have to say the graphics are some of the best i have ever seen. Get it and go where no one has gone before.
