Welcome back Street Fighter...kind of. In classic Street Fighter style, Super Street Fighter IV could have easily been Street Fighter V, but instead we continue with IV.

Onto the review, for all you Street Fighter fans out there, this is going to be a big one. With the graphics and character cast of Street Fighter IV, Super brings on 10 "new" characters and a plethora of new features.

The Graphics

Returning with the cell-shading of the original Street Fighter IV, Super ups the quality, increases the detail and introduces some new features. An example is the new colors that incorporate the cell shading to produce these interesting effects on your characters costumes.1 Other then that, the actual graphics run in play about the same as Street Fighter IV, so for those of you that count fps, you shouldn't notice much of a difference from original SF4.

There are revamped stages and overall, all of the stages seem to react better to the fighting going on. I can't quite tell what they changed at times, but it adds noticeable enjoyment to the game.

The Sound

Classic Street Fighter soundtrack, lots of sound you'll recognize and background music that well suits the game. It does get a little repetitive after playing for hours on end, but that's to be expected.

The Gameplay

Classic Street Fighter gameplay found here. An Arcade mode, Versus mode, Xbox Live Battle mode, Challenge mode, Training and then your options.

Arcade mode is a standard SF arcade, with the old 'destroy the car' and 'smash the barrels' bonus stages making a fun return. Most of the achievements involving arcade require you to finish it on Medium setting which, so be ready to start in the middle. There is a total of 7 difficulties ranging from Easiest to Hardest.

Versus is a standard versus, human vs. CPU, or human vs. human, this is the only mode that allows same system playing, something that I was kind of bummed about. I was really hoping to be able to play friend with a friend playing with me on my system online. But not so much luck on that one.

Xbox Live Battle returns with the same Ranked matches from SF4, but that is where the similarities end.

Introducing the Endless Battle mode. A new (to Street Fighter) player match where you have a room with 2-8 players playing in turn, winner stays. All the people present get to spectate if they are not playing. A truly needed addition, my only two problems with this mode are the lack of same system players playing in endless battle and the lack of the ability to control who stays. I've always liked Loser stays for training with people better then me.

Team Battle is the next introduction, a tournament style play involving teams. The first players from each team play, winner stays, other side moves to the next player. First team to lose all their players first loses. Again, idle players get to watch.

Throughout play, the game records replays, some during player matches and others through the replay battle upload system during ranked matches. (Represented by a movie real shown during the introduction scene that changes based on your wins against players your rank or above. If you are interested in this feature, I suggest you check out the manual's description.) Either way, replays are recorded and you can view these replays in the Replay Channel. Replays are split by characters debut game. These are good to watch other peoples games and learn some tactics, but other then that, this feature is present for the achievement for viewing 30 replays.

Like in the original SF4, Super brings back the Player Points (PP) and Batlle Points (BP) ranking system and the Leaderboard is very similar to the original SF4 one. Shouldn't be any surprises there.

You may have noticed the "new" from earlier when describing the character additions. So what's up with the "new"? The actual new characters introduced are Hakan, the Turkish oil wrestler (yes, he is as unusually interesting as you'd imagine), and Juri, Seth's mysterious confidant. The kinda-new characters are Guy and Cody (making their debut from Final Fight) and the other "new" characters are Adon (from a cameo position in Super Gem Fighter), Dudley and Ibuki (from Street Fighter III), Makoto (from Street Fighter III 3rd Strike) and T.Hawk and DeeJay (from Super Street Fighter II).

The Title and Icon system is also back.

The Conclusion

Should you buy this game? Should you continue to player Street Fighter IV and pass on this till Street Fighter V? I can't say, but I will say you should check this out if you like fighting games, even a little bit. Rent or buy, you won't be sorry. The online game community is fierce on this one, but the game has a lot of entertainment value and being sold for under $40 in the US2 makes it a bargain price too. Overall the control scheme is almost identical to SF4, but Super's "new" characters and online systems make it an amazing game that I have to give 5 out of 5.

Thanks for reading, all comments and criticisms welcome, I only ask that if you leave a negative, please tell me why in the comments.

1: The extra colors that have cool effects are unlocked if you have previously played Street Fighter IV and have a save file readable when you put in the Super Street Fighter IV disc.
2: The price I have heard so far for the UK is around £25, thanks to Chris1984uk, DJbruce92 and Hendo 259 for that info.

The street fighter series gets another chapter in its long running saga in the form of Super Street Fighter 4. SSF4 keeps street fighter tradition alive by releasing what can be considered an upgraded version of its last incarnation with lots of tweeks and extras. The street fighter series has always done a good job with perfecting their mold which stands up very strong here.

GRAPHICS (10/10) - the graphics are gorgeous and very original. Ive seen all too many times games battle with trying to change too much in the process taking away from the classic feel the game has been known for. Not the case here at all. SSF4 fans will fall right in love with this game all over again. different animations that you see from the characters when performing ultras, blocking, and the focus attacks is priceless.
SOUND (8.5) - All the classic themes are back and plus they got rid that horrible/ very annoying indestructible song from SF4 and replaced it with a remix variation of the classic SF2 theme. Some of the voice overs are not great but dont disrupt the experience dramatically if at all.
GAMEPLAY (10/10) - 10 new characters (2 brand new), more ultras, new stages, and the re-emergence of the classic car and barrel busting bonus stages expand on an already depth game. the combo system in this game is one of the best around and well rounded enough to pull in noobs and masters alike. If it aint broke don't fix it!. Unlike in past incarnations the commands/moves are easier to pull off proving you don't have to be a SF master to pick it up. On the other hand though the ceiling is very high for skilled players who are looking for a challenge.
CONTROLS (10/10) - The controls are very responsive, all commands and moves activate immediately when input. The button layout is very flexible allowing you to move around fierces and mediums to accomadate those who don't like using the triggers and bumpers and also allowing for one-button focus attacks.
ONLINE (9.5/10) - new game modes endless battle, team battle, and the replay channel give it a broader online experience, and also give players more learning tools to get better.

Super Stree Fighter 4
Capcom loves coming out with the same game twice (or three, four or even five times). But this game is far from the original Street Fighter 4. Adding 10 new character and new stages and bonus modes make the game fresh and brand new.

Gameplay:
since the game has arcade mode which allows you to view the endings for each character which i guess is a story but we all know fighting games don't make much sense. The new characters Juri and Hakan are both suitable and welcome to the Street Fighter universe. Juri is the evil girl that everybod loves watching. Hakan is a big oily red guy, eh everyone ones welcome! Both of which are useful. I'm more a Juri fan though. And every character has new Ultra combo which is also pretty awesome.
The game has two types of combos: Super and Ultra. Super is a build up of your attacks, while the Ultra is more of a revenge combo. some combos are better then others. The ultra combos are easily avoidable if some doesn't know what thier doing. Try playing a seasond veteran who plays as Guile, and newbie who plays as Ken or even Zangief. It's easy to just bullshit your way into winning which does get a bit frustrating to those who wish to fight the old fashion way. Bigger character tend to be slower while small character like Cammy or Ibuki are more about speed while Sagat, and Zangief are about power. Ryu types character also seem to have the best balance, while character you'd rarley see online (Guile, Chun-Li) also have a good balance, you just can't spin the stick and push buttons in order for them to perform thier Ultra. which is why if you do use Guile, Dee Jay, Chun-Li then I do respect you.
The game does have it's fair share of bullshit. Some character simply can't be beat if you know how to spam just right. Ex. Zangief's spinng attack which can simply be done by pushing left trigger. Or Ken's Shyrouken. But the game makes up for that simply because there are more people who simply enjoy the game for what it is.

Graphics:
Stunning. One of the best looking fighter ever made. Soft one the eyes while being crisp and clear. Great stages and color and costumes available for download add more things you can show off on line.

Overall
My favorite fight game of the year
Hands down

Super Street Fighter 4 is an excelent fighter, but for newer players, it may be a challenge. There is a steep learning curbangry, but once you master the basics, it will be a fun gamesmile. SSF4 was my first fighting game, an trust me, I was terrible when I started. Just hop into the Challenge mode or Training mode and practice. Also, don't mash buttons! It will just lose you gamescry The only reason I would need to give SSF4 a 4 out of 5 instead of a 5 out of 5 is because of the learning curb for some new players. So overall, SSF4 is an excelent fighters, probably the best (new) fighter out there. It is a must buy!
