********************de Blob 2 Video Game Review*********************

de Blob 2 was developed by Australian developer Blue Tongue Entertainment. It is a sequel to their 2008 Wii exclusive de Blob. The sequel was obviously released on 360 (duh) and PS3. the game delivers a fun, if slightly brief, gaming experience that you most likely won't be still thinking about in a few months time.

Being a kids game, the story to de Blob isn't overly complex. It's told through cutscenes without dialogue, the characters just sort of grunt and make gestures. They have their own language. However if you can't make sense of these cutscenes between levels there is a little comic strip that tells the story in an even more simplified manner.

The story is though, Comrade Black is back, and he's trying to take over another city. You (Blob) and the Colour Underground are waging a guerilla war against him and his army of Inky soldiers. You do standard guerilla warfare type things, sever supply lines, take out political leaders and such. But instead of actually killing people or blowing up buildings like in more mature games, you simply paint the buildings houses or cover the Inkys with paint.

As far as gameplay goes, it is pretty much the same as the first one, in between missions you run can around jumping and painting buildings and Inkys to gain time check points and then you do a mission to advance through the level.

The missions are fairly simple most of the time, but can be a little repetitive. The time limit imposed on all levels all of the time is however very, very annoying. You have lives and continues, the time limit just feels like the game is try to railroad you through itself. Once you have completed the level however you can stay there and finish painting the buildings and do extra challenges to gain more inspiration points. You can then leave at any time to continue with the game.

Inspiration points are the games currency for purchasing upgrades for Blob to increase his paint carrying capabilities, his lives and armour points available to him and how many paint points it costs to charge at things.

The controls for the game are where it really shows its cracks. The game doesn't control every well using the joysticks, it would definitly work better using the Wii's motion control system. It takes a bit of getting used to, and the games unruly camera doesn't help out at all.

The visual and sound effects present throughout de Blob are great. When you start a level, the landscape is bland, quiet and basically grey. As you start to paint up the buildings, trees and inhabitants the music picks up, you can see cars and trucks flying about animals, flowers and people pop up and you can see the city come back to life. Whenever you paint something it adds another note to the music and depending on the colour it changes the style of music it adds. eg red adds a jazzy beat to the mix, brown adds a more electro beat to it.

Overall I liked de Blob. It's definitly not my favourite game ever, or even in my top 5. But it was enjoyable, cute and kinda funny in places. If you have children I would definitly buy it.

De Blob 2 is one of the worst games I've ever played. I know I'm not the target demographic, and I would never fault a game because it is aimed at children; children do not deserve such unplayable garbage.

Most of the frustration will stem from an out-of-control camera that will only stay put for a few seconds at a time, this will make controlling the character damn-near impossible for what seems to be pretty straightforward gameplay. Beware if you get motion sickness.

The story isn't very compelling either, but I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt on that its meant to be a kid's game. I didn't find the story interesting enough to make me stick around and put up with the horrible gameplay.

And why can't I change difficulty once I've selected it at the first screen? What the crap is that?!

Achievements are mostly tied to level completion, and if you have the patience put up with more than one level, then kudos to you my friend! smile
