Another week has passed, and so it is time for another entry in Worhammer's Shameless Easy-Mode Super Happy Gamerscore Funtime.
I rate this only slightly better than Nickelodeon Dance. The graphics for the game are very reminiscent of Kinect Adventures, which makes sense because it's basically that game but more focused on out-door summer camp type events. The sounds and music are ok, and there aren't more loading screens than necessary.
So the game is laid out in two modes. Freeplay and Cabela's Cup mode. which is five events of either your choosing or you can randomize it if you are just playing for the first time. There are also two more events that are replayed every time you select Cabela's Cup.
To start out with, there's this random rock-paper-scissors style event at the start of each week. This counts as day one. Not sure who spends a whole day just to play "Hunter, Bear, Ninja" as they call it but there you have it. Also, the whole idea of a Bear beating a Ninja seems flawed to me. The ninja can kill the hunter who has a gun, but not the bear who has no gun? Whatever. On top of all that, there was not one single time I managed to win the event because no matter what I did it never recognized the move I wanted. I don't think I ever successfully played ninja, it was always either bear or hunter - and usually bear. Often when I tried to do hunter, the game didn't notice me doing anything at all.
So there you have the summary of everything that's wrong with this game. There was a lot of room for potential here. I love Kinect Adventures, which is what this game is trying to be. Poor motion detection really screws up a game that is...well, motion controlled. It would be like trying to play Gears 3 and pulling the trigger to shotgun your enemy, and not having anything happen instead. Oh, wait.....
So the next 5 days are filled with several different types of events. The different events are Hunting, Fishing, Kayaking, Jet Skiing, Skeet Shooting, Archery, and Biking. There are different skill levels of each of the events, two for the more physical activities and four for archery and shooting. You must play each difficulty of each event once as a girl character (not sure why that matters, apparently somebody felt girl characters don't get enough attention....) for one of the achievements, but you don't have to win or even place, so it's fine.
The last event is a "simon" style game of whack a mole. This also can be frustrating as I sometimes found myself whacking the wrong mole and thus getting screwed out of an achievement.
Overall, the game isn't hard or overly tedious for a quick 1K. That alone gets it good points. None of the achievements are overly time consuming, and when the controls are working it is actually a little fun. I would give it 3 stars, but the controls really make the game pretty hard to enjoy, so instead it gets 1.5.
Final time to 1K: 5 - 6 hours. There are a total of probably 18 events which must each be played once, and then you will also need to replay a few of them two or three times each for different achievements. Using a guide to map out your strategy and minimize replaying things, it could probably be done in 4 - 5 hours if you're not too out of shape.
