Intro

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations is the 3rd installment in the Ninja Storm Franchise. (2nd for the Xbox 360). The game returns fan of the series, as well as new comers to the Way of the Ninja with a rich experience from the anime series. Many elements make a return from the previous 2 prequels. The faster combat, recording of matches, and substitution bars are just some of the new features and that tune the game entirely and aided many of the past faults. Being a gamer who completed the previous title (UNS2) I can assure you this game has a plethora of advancement and drawbacks.
-
Story Mode
The Story Mode of Naruto: UNSG features the unique story-lines of 11 ninjas who mainly impacted in the series. Throughout the story-lines you'll engage in the major battles throughout the character's role in the anime, which are followed by narrated clips and short animations. Along the unique story-lines you'll travel through the timeline of the Naruto series and play as some of the Ninja world's shinobi in their younger states.(Part I and Part II) The game also features English and Japanese voice overs by the original actors.

No Free-Roaming
A major cut from the previous title (Naruto: UNS2) was the free roaming aspect of the game. Many gamers were not pleased with the constant traveling by foot from place to place with the last game. This was to reduced the extensive time that would have been spent on this mode. However, it made many gamers disappointed as the "generation" of settings were not applied at all to the story telling experience.

Battle-to-Battle, no Bosses
Another feature that had been removed from were cinematic boss battles. This feature really thrived with the last title and is what generally had alot of gamer looking forward to progressing. With the replacement of consecutive battles, it left little to be desired for the battles among the story-lines.

With these factors the game still delivered the already known facts to fans of the series in 11 unique ways. However, newcomers to the Naruto world will still be left in the dark to some extent due to vague plot holes.

Tournament Mode
A new feature added to the title way that of Tournament Mode. This allowed players to go up against set teams known in the Naruto World. Players would choose to go up against the solo or with a team of their own. As the battles continue the ranks will increase and battles will grow more difficult. This will also hone your skills in the basic combat if you're striving the win those online battles.

Survival Mode
("The strong survive and the weak shall perish")
This mode is where most of the achievement hunters will spend their time. Survival mode is, in itself, a survival mode to topple the ranks and defeat your opponents. Unlike Tournament Mode there are some factors that make this an entirely new experience. In this mode you'll be in consecutive matches where you must win them all to advance. Health is a top priority now more than ever. As you win matches you'll recover health based on your ranks and performance. This is especially noted once matches become a PAIN in the ASSangry! With 255 matches total, a well rounded team, and a extreme amount of patience...this will be the grind of the game.
-
Online Mode
With 72 characters and 15 support-only characters this allows players to choose their favorite players from the Naruto World to see in action. New arenas also add a new atmosphere for players who wish to revisit memorable setting from the series.

External image

With online ranked and player matches gamers can challenge others across the world for a spot on the leaderboards. They also earn Battle Points(BP) to show their experience on the battlefield.

Another feature is that players can make their own custom rank matches and use Ninja Info Cards to boost up particular fighting features and add their own weapon sets to dominate their opponents.

The last and, in my opinion, best online feature is the ability to host your own Tournament mode with up to 8 players in a lobby. This also is great because during matches instead of waiting for your match to start, you can watch other players fight and spectate as if you're there. This makes the experience more richer and can help players understand their opponents strategies.

Game-play & New features
With the return of past elements the game sees several new features and changes. The battle system, for instance, has been modified for faster game-play and flow.

Substitution Bar
The game also implements a MUCH NEEDED substitution bar. In the past title gamers would spam the block button in order to avoid enemy attacks to no avail. Now with 4 bars, that recharge over time, plays must plan their battles accordingly in order to defeat their opponents and stay in the clear.

External image

Chakra Dash
The Chakra Dash is by far the most useful and most used new feature this game has to offer. Much different than the initial chakra dash of previous titles, this chakra dash can be used mid-combo, and is illistrated by it's yellow spark effect when performed properly. This allows players to string together combo after combo for more damage, reconnect a combo set up if their opponent choose to substitute(Which can be countered with a support character), or dash away from an enemy if you're out of sub bars, create a gap between the other player, or need to get out harm's way.

External image

Achievements
The game has a total of 50 achievements for 1000G. the achievements are pretty straight forward, if you know what you're doing. Given that their is a 30hr play time achievement this game will be at least 30 hours. (Unless you leave your console on) The grindiest time that will be spent on this game will be Survival Mode, and collecting 80% of the Ninja Info Cards and Titles. If you complete ALL modes, story-lines, and play a few online ranked matches all the achievements will fall into place for an easy completion...just a time consuming one.

Conclusion
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations is a beautifully crafted, and easily basic game. The game's new features and modes completely outshadow the petty drawbacks and leave this a fun and enjoyable game. Fan of the Naruto series and previous games will want to pick this title up as it only adds to overall experience of the previous titles. And newcomers to the series will gain alot of insight and understanding for this vibrant new title. And with it will come alot of addicting ninja battles which is what Generations is all about! Thank you for reading!

Alright this is going to be my first ever review so bear with me here, i'll try my best.

So it's been about 2 years since I last bought a Naruto game, which was Naruto: Rise of a Ninja. Now that game I had some fun with, had difficult achievements that I couldn't get.. But anyways to the point here, I was expecting Naruto UNSG to be the same way but I was wrong.. It's better! Even though they removed the RPG element it still had its own way of bringing the fun to the player giving so many different modes and features.

(MODES)

Story Mode- The way they broke story mode down was pretty interesting, you can play as 11 characters, I wont spoil who exactly but obviously the game is called "Generations" so you will be playing out main battles of their life, and while playing you are being led along by a specific narrator and short movie clips from the anime, (with some pretty good battles included). But there was something that bothered me.. the movies weren't uncut so a lot of violence was cut out, I also noticed that they cut out or changed some of the events in the show, I won't spoil what exactly but see if you can spot them yourselves. But to the core story mode turned pretty entertaining to me for several hours, made it fun to relive some of Naruto's most epic fights.

**4.5/5 STARS < Can I do that?.. 4.5..? Haha oh well I couldn't decide.

Tournament mode: Now this mode will be a must for you achievement hunters, there are I believe 12 or 13 achievements linked to this mode, and it isn't too bad of a mode to play. I haven't got much to say about it but you can expect a simple tournament play-style here, but with a small twist, you can choose how the bracket is set up and who faces who, the difficulty on this one shouldn't be too hard for people, because I had no trouble. Each time you complete a tournament you will be greeted with a "Character Name" Winner with a trophy and the notorious "Achievement unlocked sound" that should be enough to keep you playing and satisfied.

**4/5 STARS

Survival Mode: Ahhh survival mode, how I deeply love you.. NOT. This mode can get frustrating at times I tell ya, but thank the Gods for the health recovery after each battle. Again you can expect simple survival play-style here. Choose a rank (difficulty) and battle scenario (basically how many foes there are). You can either play solo or choose team battle and have support characters, personally I play team style. Even though this mode can get pretty difficult I believe you'll still have fun with it, besides there are achievements linked to this mode of course so you'll just have to beat it right? RIGHT?

**3.5/5 STARS (Every time I type that I think of Nemesis from Resident Evil saying that infamous quote) laugh

Online Mode: Now I haven't spent much time in this mode because I've been more focused on the main game and it's modes, but i have played a couple battles and I gotta say the online is pretty solid so far, you can battle solo 1v1 or you can take it to tournament mode or endless mode which is just basically never ending matches. The connection I've had when battling people is pefect, no lag for me what so ever. I understand that you have your own Ninja title card but like I said I haven't got to research much into that so far, I will mostly likely add to this section later on, but from what I've seen of online so far..

**5/5 STARS (Ha)

(FEATURES)

GRAPHICS: Now this is what really stood out for me when I first saw this game, I thought it was the actual anime at first! I gotta say they really did a super amazing job on this game with the graphics, they really are beautiful. If you somehow haven't seen any pictures or gameplay, you should really google and see for yourself.

**5/5 Stars

Sound: The sound along with the graphics are amazing features of the game, they really did a great job with all the sound effects and music blending in the fights. The character voices were spot on too well obviously but I found no flaws here honestly! laugh

**5/5 STARS

(END THOUGHTS)

Bottom Line: NARUTO UNSG was a nice new breathe of fresh air for me in gaming, I loved the new approach they took with it and how well they render the animation of the characters and effects. Again this was my very first review so I hope you liked it and can get a feel of what this game can deliver!

The chances are you've probably heard of Naruto. It's a huge phenomenon ranging from the original mangas to the anime TV series, the collectible card games and more appropriately dozens of spin-off video games. Which neatly leads us to this game, the third in the Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm series and the second to be available on 360 - Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations.

As the title suggests this title covers both versions of the Naruto storyline, the younger years and the more recent series. The game itself is a 3D fighter where you are engaged in one-on-one battles against your opponent. However the first thing you'll notice, which stands this apart from the like of Street Fighter, is there is just one button for attack. The other buttons are just as important but the main attacks are restricted to one button and to be honest this is a breath of fresh air. I'm often put off of games like Street Fighter and Tekken due to having any decent shot of success you have to learn a variety of combos and button presses for each individual character . Don't let this fool you into thinking that Naruto is just a button basher though.

Apart from attack you have buttons for jumping, throwing shuriken, blocking, substitution and chakra charge (the latter two I'll go into detail in a little bit). Due to this simplistic approach it won't be long till you are looking like an expert fighter and pulling off impressive moves, which considering the target audience of Naruto is probably a very wise move. Hammering the attack button may well get you through your first few matches but you won't get much further until you master the two most important elements of the combat, substiution and chakra charging.

External image

Substitution is a variation on blocking but in which you disappear and re-appear behind your opponent when being attacked. Be wary as you can only use it while your bar is charged and each use takes one of four segments so if you spam the move you'll find yourself defenceless when the enemy starts laying on a major combo. In fact its worth mentioning the block button is pretty redundant due to the fact that substitution and jumping are much more effective at avoiding blows.

Chakra loading is where all the action is though. Pressing Y will charge your character up for a few seconds and any other action pressed during this charge will produce different results ranging from dashing across the arena or more importantly performing jutsu (essentially a special move) . You can charge your chakra bar by holding Y down and once the bar is full you have access to a couple of extra moves too. First up is your Ultimate Jutsu which is a hugely damaging super move which can wipe out anything from a quarter to a half of a characters total health. But also once you've last half your health it can activate Awakening mode which makes your character faster and stronger and can often turn a battle completely around.

Best of all each of the 70 odd characters to choose from have individual jutsus to use each with impressive cut-scenes to go with them something which the developers must be applauded for. Speaking of characters its worth mentioning that there is also an option to choose two support characters for your fighter in battle who can be called upon to help out your main fighter. This allows a huge amount of customisation to find just the right balance of players for your fighting style when you go into battle.

External image

On top of all this you also have Ninja tools which are items to be used in battle which can have various affects from boosting your character, to damaging enemys or reducing their stats as well as refill chakra bars. All in all although on first looks it seems quite simple once you get into the nitty gritty of the game there is a lot of depth and tactics with which to plan your battles.

With the basics covered its worth looking at the different modes available to you. First up is the story mode. This is your first port of call in the game as completing this mode will unlock the full range of characters to play with. There are 10 main tales to be told all based around the central narrative of the Naruto canon with each tale focussing on one of characters from the series (there is a further 11th tale to be unlocked on completion of the main ten as a bonus which is well worth the effort just for pure comedy value). Each of the tales begins with a small animated video which tells the story leading up to the first battle with all the subsequent narration being done with a series of narrated slide shows. Each battle is taken from a major plot point in the Naruto tale and you will be given characters and support charcters automatically to fight with. It's a great way to get to grips with a variety of different characters and feel how each fighter should be played. One downside is as you go through the different tales you will repeat some of these battles but often from your enemies perspective instead so it will still be a fresh experience.

Best of all by the time you've finished the tales you will have a basic understanding of the Naruto storyline so if your a relative newcomer like myself you'll soon know your Gaara's from your Jiragi's!! (though for newcomers I'd recommend playing Young Naruto followed by Old Naruto to get a good grasp of the storyline before diving into the other tales). The story mode itself will take you between 8-10 hours to finish and one of its greatest features is after you've been kicked to death by the same opponent three times your given the option to lower the difficulty so theres no reason that even the worst players can't finish this mode.

Once you've finished the story mode, there are still a number of other modes to conquer in single player mode. First up is the tournament mode where you can choose your favourite fighter and support team to take out teams from the stories in a knockout style tournament. There are 4 different ranks to beat with each rank having 3 tournaments to win.

External image

There is also a survival mode in which you have to defeat between 2-12 opponents in a row with the same health bar. Health is slightly restored after each fight but you'll need to be on top of your game to get through the later fights. On top of that there is also an unlockable ultimate survivor mode where you just keep going till you lose!

However once you've mastered all the single player conten, there is still plenty of gameplay left to explore. Obviously you can have local co-op fights either one-on-one or tournaments, but you also have an online mode where you can fight against opponents from around the world. Be warned though many of the players on here will have been playing this game since the the Ultimate Ninja Storm series began so be prepared to be whipped quite badly until your skills improve.

To help you online though you can use card images which can boost your stats. These are unlocked through playing through the various other modes and can also be unlocked through the collectible card game released in conjunction with the game. The collectible cards will have a passcode printed on them which once entered will unlock the more powerful cards giving you another advantage online.

The only real problem is that once you've finished off all the single player content unless your a hardcore online Naruto fan there will be little to entice you back into playing this unless you've got mates round. However as I stated the ease of getting into games means even the most novice of players should get some fun out of this if you've invited them round for a game or two!

External image

Graphically the game is bright and colourful with the traditional cel-shaded graphics that have been used in most of the Naruto games. Each character is easily recognisable and some of the Ultimate Jutsu animations are incredible. There was only one time when there was a problem when I was playing a night level against an enemy who was pretty much entirely in black and half the time I could not make him out on screen at all but other than that no problems. Even online there was no lag or difficulty despite all the players online being American and with medium connection signals.

The sounds are awesome and really add to the intensity of the battles too. The music tracks are ranged as well depending on the theme of the battle and some of the story sections have some prefectly toned music to add to the emotion of the tales. As can be expected the voices are superbly done and will be recognisable to anyone who has followed the anime and with a choice of both Japanese and English language even the most die-hard Naruto fan won't be able to complain.

Lastly the achievements. First up although this is not a quick 1000GS it is easily obtainable and will take the majority of players exactly 30 hours to get. I say exactly 30 hours as that is one of the achievements and you should have wrapped up most of the rest by then. Thankfully there are no on-line achievements and most of them will come with natural progression through the different modes with a few requiring extra matches against cpu opponents to mop up. As difficulty doesn't affect achievements if you want a really easy time you can lower the difficulty though on normal you shouldn't have too many problems.

So the question is should you buy this. Well if your a Naruto fan you've probably already bought this and if you haven't you really should. If your not a Naruto fan I still suggest picking this up. The only real downside is that the single player content will be unlikely to draw you back in. However not only is it a reasonably easy 1000GS but with the simplistic controls its a great game to play with mates after a night out so is definitely worth picking up.

Welcome to this review of Naruto: Ultimate ninja storm Generations. This game adds to the previous game with new fights, characters, and new stories to experience.

Story:
In story mode, players experience major fights in the lives of 11 characters. Each character has fights based on major events in the series and based on the impact the character had. A few of these characters have never been played in story mode and gives the gamer a look back at their past.
Unfortunately the story mode is lacking few crucial points. First off is the side scrolling aspect the previous game had. This aspect kept gamers entertained in finding items to make weapons and healing remedies. Another thing to point out is that the cinematic events are gone. Button sequences are abandoned for a reason no one really knows.

Survival / Tournement
These challenge modes allow you to fight certain ninja in countnuous rounds until you lose or a champion is crowned. Tournemt mode is basicly another tournement mode with different teirs.
During survival mode you clear stages until you reach the Ultimate Survival challenge, which is traditional survival. The mode gives you a chance to beat previous records abnd obtian braging rights.

Online:
This mode allows you to pick your favorite ninjas (old or young) from a list of 72 and have them fight against others from around the world. Online has a few cool new features: by using ninja info cards you obtain at certain offers abilities to you and you’re team mates in custom matches. Also, custom tournaments have made its mark. This allows you to play with up to 8 people in tournament set up by you. Online also provides you with a chance to obtain ninja info cards, if you don’t quit have all the ninja info you need to get 100% completion of the game.

New stuff:
The substitution bar allows you to substitute easily with the press of a button. This is also a clear indicator of whether you can substitute or not. Another much anticipated feature is the young versions from the original Naruto series as well as Kakashi as a kid. The game also adds characters who are support only such as: the sound ninja five (accept Kimmimaru), and the curse seal ninja just to name a few. These new characters offer new ultimate jutsu and more team combinations to make. The game also foffers new substitution objects and ninja tolls in order for you to create your ideal tool set.

The fans will find the game to be a good addiotion, but may find lacking. New commers will have a good feel about what the series is about and how the mechanics of the game are.The game is fun and is anenjoyable summary to catch up with the series if you have lost track of the storyline so far.
