My 2015 gaming review
Even though I've only been on TrueAchievements since April 2015 I am going to take a look back at how my year went with regards to gaming, achievement hunting and then look forward to next year and what I want to accomplish. Favourite games
According to Xbox Live, I have played 1159 hours of game time
, gaining a total of 30,115 gamerscore
since January. I've had an absolute blast on the Xbox One this year and have had a great time playing a large number of games, completing more than I have ever done in the past. Some of these games are not new, i.e. weren't released in 2015, for example I surprisingly had a lot of fun going back to thousand point Thief
after initially not liking the game at all. Since I love the Dark Souls franchise so much I found myself drawn to Lords of the Fallen
and had a very gratifying time getting 100% in both the base game and the DLC. Speaking of Dark Souls, I also found great enjoyment in attaining 1000 points in Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin
. Another game I have spent a lot of time with is Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires
which has entertained me for many hours despite having some annoying and very time consuming achievements that I have yet to complete. Being a huge Bethesda fan, I of course loved every minute of Fallout 4
even after having a key part of the game spoiled for me from some asshat online. Other big releases I loved, despite their flaws I might add, are; Dying Light
, Star Wars Battlefront
, Just Cause 3
and Halo 5: Guardians
, all of which I have 100% in. Yes they have problems and were far from perfect games but I nevertheless enjoyed most of the triple A titles released this year. It has also been great to replay the old Halo games in Halo: The Master Chief Collection
and I plan to finish off all of the par time and par score achievements in the new year. I also loved returning to the Gears of War franchise with the release of Gears of War: Ulitmate Edition
, although I am still missing a couple of the harder achievements on that one. However by far my favourite game this year was The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
. I loved the story. the characters, the setting, the gameplay...I mean you're a professional monster hunter! How cool is that?! Even though I haven't got all of the achievements, Witcher 3 definitely deserves to be game of the year and I can't wait for the second DLC to drop in 2016.
As an achievement hunter I'll also list some extremely enjoyable and easy to complete games that I 100%'d this year (again some of these are not new to 2015):Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious
Pneuma: Breath of Life
Thomas was Alone
Valiant Hearts: The Great War
The Walking Dead by Telltale Games
- finally got around to playing this and loved it!
Finally my best completion spot for any game that I completed this year is 10th place
in Just Cause 3 closely followed by an 11th place
finish in Star Wars Battlefront.Game let downs
As strange as it might seem I didn't really feel that let down by any of the newly released games I played this year. That being said, I can still absolutely see and understand that there were flaws in many of the triple A titles of 2015, with perhaps the best examples being Star Wars Battlefront and Halo 5: Guardians. Now don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved playing these games and had a blast hunting the achievements for them (Halo 5 was the first time I used a gaming session to play with members of the TA community). However, considering the hype around these games I definitely felt a certain amount of disappointment when I realised that what we got was quite far from what we were promised or expected of these titles. Also how can EA justify the price tag of Battlefront's season pass? Just ludicrous, but I've already ranted about that in my last blog post.
All said, I was very satisfied and happy with the games I played this year and cannot wait for the new titles that 2016 will bring.Goals for 2016
Speaking of which I feel as though I should quickly outline my goals for next year. When I first joined TA, I expressed that I was never that bothered about achievement hunting on the Xbox 360. Since the release of the Xbox One however, I have become more hooked on it than ever before and subsequently want to increase my gamerscore more and more. Therefore, next year I want to hit 100,000gs
and raise my game completion total to 50
- as of writing this I am currently on 65,685gs and 24 completed games. I would also love to have a top 5 finish
in any new game that comes out, although this one is admittedly quite hard! I don't know how quickly, or slowly, I will accomplish this but I am thoroughly looking forward to finding out.
Finally, I have decided that I want to try and make gaming journalism into a potential career and will soon be writing for TheXboxHub.com as well as being a part of GameSkinny.com's journalist internship program. Look out for content from me soon over on those sites. I will also endeavour to update my blog here on TA as often as possible and try and build a bit of a portfolio of content, so to speak. This is quite an exciting time for me, as a 21 year old having only just finished university, and I can't wait to get started!
Thanks for reading and let me know how your year went! Have a great 2016!
