It is an overt admission from MS that they stuffed up. Simple. Thing is, this sort of stuff should never have been announced in the first place.

That said - I liked the idea of sharing games with 10 friends/family. That's something I would've liked to have seen retained.

The "no region lock" is going to have potentially massive implications for game prices in Australia. Retailers already can't compete with sites like OzGameShop.

There wasn't anything particularly innovative about the One to begin with.

The sharing and ability to gift digital games was pretty damn innovative.

Gifting's been on Steam for a while, I guess sharing is. When I think innovative, I guess I think of something. Not just "Hey, your games are digital

but you can still share them". It's still the same idea as before (sharing), only now you aren't giving a physical disc -- only because the disc is worthless.

Agreed, the pre-order numbers had to be terrifying for them to take such a major step. But a lot of that obviously stems from all the discussion.

Either way, all of this has been fascinating and I would love to have been able to listen in to all of the calls and meetings that have surely happened recently!

Would've worked if they had fully committed to it. That would have to have meant cheaper games at release, if there was no onward sale or discs. 25-30 a game. Not 50.

That can still take place in the future. When the consumer marketplace is ready to support all-digital, it'll happen.

Digital games already exist on PC and cost the same price as the physical copies. It would be exactly the same on consoles. Digital doesn't mean cheaper.

The problem is that instead of going a step ahead in technology, Microsoft tried to jump 10 steps ahead. The infrastructure doesn't exist for successful always-on tech.

I don't see the argument really. How is having to be online once a day and fucking with what works is any better then having to get up and fucking changing a disc.

Being that lazy is really unhealthy.

It's not the getting up, its the ability to quick swap between games etc and not having to carry all your games everywhere

I don't see how it's that much hard to put a disc into a tray then going through a menu and clicking a button, unless you play like 30 games a day or something crazy.

They listened the whole time, that was the problem. People wanted all those features and the DRM was the only way of making sure that it did not get abused.

The DRM and online check-in were there to protect devs and I have no problem with it.....but, Sony didn't go with it so Microsoft....

It should be OK. What I'd do is test it out before you buy anything. See if it will allow you to get into the Xbox Czech store and to the point of purchasing something.
