4. Multiplayer
The multiplayer in Left 4 Dead is excellent. The community, however, can be a royal pain in the backside and you will find yourself getting kicked a lot for no apparent reason. If you persevere you can find some really great games of Versus, whilst meeting some great people along the way. All of the achievements below take a lot of patience and luck, but again, persevere and you will be rewarded. If you want to get these achievements unlocked quickly, you can set up a private Versus match with a second controller. Just make sure the profile you want the achievements on is set as the Infected and not the Survivors.
We'll start off with the Boomer achievement in which you have to cover all 4 Survivors with bile at once. Just wait until all 4 Survivors are together, then unleash your vomit. During the 3rd chapter on the No Mercy campaign, the Surivors will come to a point where they have to use a lift to gain access to a sloping rooftop. You'll know they're in the correct place as it will be next to a small Gas Station surrounded by several large Trucks. When all 4 Survivors are on said lift, spawn on the rooftop above them and cover them in your green stuff.
You can also gain this by setting up a private match with a second controller set as the Survivors. Move them into place, making sure that the other 3 AI players are close by, then with your first controller cover them in bile.

The Double Jump achievement requires you to pounce on two different Survivors in one life. This means that you must pounce and kill one Survivor (or be shoved off) and then pounce onto another. This can be a little tricky when done in Versus mode as most of the Survivors, or at least those with half a brain cell, stick together. If one of the Survivors gets separated from the rest, aim for that one. Sometimes the other Survivors won't see him/her being pinned. If you manage to do this and kill the Survivor, aim to pounce on another one.
This can be attained via a private Versus match with a second controller set as the Survivors. Aim to pounce on the Survivor that is controlled by the second controller. More often than not the AI Survivors will jump shove you off, leaving you to pounce on a second Survivor. Failing this, have the second controller kill off 2 of the AI survivors. This should make it a bit easier.
Pounce two different Survivors in one life as a Hunter.
The Chain Smoker achievement is probably the easiest of the multiplayer achievements listed on this page. You'll need to contrict 2 different survivors in one life. During online play, find a rooftop to spawn onto and pull a Survivor. You'll want the Survivors teammates to shove the restricted Survivor, so this relies on luck. If they do, the survivor will be relased and you will have to wait a few seconds before you can attack again. Then, simply pull another one. If you get killed after your first pull, you'll need to try again.
Again, this can be done with a second controller as per the method above for the "Double Jump" achievement.
Constrict two Survivors in one life as a Smoker.
Another tricky one is the Big Drag achievement. You need to pull a Survivor 100 feet with your tongue as a Smoker. 100 feet is actually beyond the range of the Smoker's tongue, so for this you'll need to grab a survivor whilst he's running away from you. This will extend the tongue over the 100 foot threshold. You'll also need to do this without the tongue being cut off. This can be achieved with a second controller set as the Survivors. Run the second controller's controlled Survivor to the end of the level until you get to the Safe Room. Enter the Safe Room so that the AI follow you, but do not close the door. Instead, run back up and find a place with a decent amount of open space and leave him/her there. Set up your Infected character so that the reticule is aimed over the second controller's Survivor. Adjust the Smoker far away enough that the reticule is still red in colour (if it's grey it means you are out of range). Just as you hit the Right Trigger button to fire the Smoker's tongue, move the second controllers Survivor away from the Smoker. Now you should be 20 gamerscore better off.

You'll need to kill all 4 Survivors to earn the All 4 Dead achievement, not just hit them. This means that once you have the Survivor incapacited, you can either let them bleed out or finish them off by meleeing them. This can be particularly tricky, especially if you are playing against a team of skilled individuals. The easiest way is to again, set up a private Versus match with a second controller set on the Survivor's team. Start on one of the finales (I'd recommend the Dead Air finale) as Tanks spawn fairly quickly and often. Once you've spawned as the Tank, unleash hell! Try and use objects that are smashable to take out the Survivors as this is quicker. Once you have incapacitated 3 Survivors, leave the 4th one alone until the other 3 are dead. When they have been killed off, you'll just need to incapacitate the 4th Survivor. You can even use the second controller to lower the AI's health by shooting them.
Kill all four Survivors in one life while playing as a Tank.
For the Lamb 2 Slaughter achievement, you’ll need to incapacitate a Survivor who has entered and then left the Safe Room. Trying to get this online can be a royal pain in the backside as it is rare that people leave the Safe Room. It’s a zombie apocalypse, why would you!? Your best bet to attaining this is to boost it with a second controller. Load up the first level of the No Mercy campaign as it’s the shortest level. Just don’t forget to set your second controller as the Survivors and your first controller as the Infected. With your second controller, run the Survivors to the end of the level. Enter the Safe Room and close the door, but make sure there is at least one of the AI outside, otherwise the level will end. Open the door and let the AI run in. This will keep them out of the way. Go outside, close the Safe Room door and make your way outside. Then with your first controller, simply incapacitate the lone Survivor.
As an Infected, incap a Survivor who has entered and left a safe room.
You’ll need to deal a total of 5,000 damage upon the Survivors when playing as the Infected whilst online to earn yourself the Dead Wreckening achievement. This is cumulative, so don’t worry about trying to get this in one game. You can track how much damage you’ve inflicted overall--use the achievement progress screen from the Pause or Main menu and scroll down to the Dead Wreckening achievement. You should have accumulated a fair amount of damage if you've attempted any/all of the above achievements online.
Dole out 5000 total Survivor damage as a Special Infected.
Crash Course DLC
The Crash Course, as explained in the Story related achievements earlier in this walkthrough, is a short campaign with only 2 levels. Some of the achievement can be buggy. If you find that an achievement isn’t unlocking, change the server you are playing on from “Dedicated” to “Local” or vice-versa. Some achievements have been reported to unlock after downloading the latest update. For me, the "20 Car Pile-up" achievement unlocked after I updated the game.
You can unlock the following 3 achievements altogether to save you some time. Load up the Crash Course campaign on a private Versus match, with your main profile as the Infected and the second controller as the Survivors. With the second controller, work your way through the campaign until you come to the finale. Once there, you’ll need to start the generator and then restart it once it breaks. After this the armoured truck will be ready and the back of it will be open for you to board. Do not board it though. Now the real work starts. Grab your Infected character and wait until you spawn as the Tank. As soon as you do, start attacking the AI. You should be able to take them out fairly quickly as they’ll be grouped together. You can hit the cars and fling them towards the Survivors. If you manage to incapacitate 3 of them within 5 seconds, you’ll earn the "Wipefest" achievement. Now it’s a case of finishing off the final 4th character. Be inventive if you like, but as soon as he/she is down, you’ll earn the "Truck Stop" achievement. It’ll then be the turn of the first controllers to guide the Survivors through the campaign. Once this is done and you’ve overcome the finale, you’ll unlock the "Smash Hit" achievement for winning a Versus game.

Your team wipes all Survivors after the escape vehicle has opened in Crash Course.
Your team incapacitates three Survivors within five seconds in the Crash Course campaign.
As mentioned above, you may get the "20 Car Pile-up" achievement when updating the game. If not, you’ll need to either get online, wait for your turn to play as the Tank, then hit 20 Survivors with cars.
This can also be done via a private Versus match. Simply load up the second level of the Crash Course campaign and make sure you are playing as the Infected and the second controller is set as the Survivors. Guide the Survivors to the finale, start the generator, and fight off the first wave of the Horde. Once the Tank spawns have the Survivors stand next to the cars. Get the Tank to hit the car against 3 of the Survivors. This will incap them. The 4th Survivor will then revive them, meaning you can hit the car at them again. Rinse and repeat this method until you have the achievement unlocked.

Possibly the hardest achievement to earn is the Slippery Pull achievement. It has been reported that it may not unlock during online play, so I’d recommend trying to achieve it via a private Versus match with a second controller. Load up the second level of the Crash Course campaign with your main profile as the Infected and your second controller as the Survivors. Run them through the level until you get to the finale. You may want to kill off the AI players to make this easier as well. Once there, grab your first controller and spawn as a Boomer. Find a place for the Boomer that is close enough to the Survivor but not in sight and spawn him. Do not do anything just yet, instead wait until you spawn as the Tank. As soon as you do spawn as the Tank, make him visible to the Survivor. As the Survivor, kill off the Tank. By this point, the AI will have taken over as the Boomer. Do not shoot the Boomer just yet. Wait until you have spawned as a Smoker. As soon as you do, get the Survivor in place to be vomited on, or kill the Boomer so that you are covered in his bile. Once this is done, you’ll need to grab your first controller and aim for the bile-covered Survivor.
This is an extremely tricky method, and requires a lot of coordination, but it is more than doable. Just remember to keep fighting off the Horde when you are playing as the Survivor in the finale, especially if you are vomited on.

A hunter may inflict damage upon the Survivors with his initial pounce. Depending on the height and distance of the pounce, the initial damage will vary. The higher/longer the pounce distance, the more damage it will inflict. If you manage to deal 25 points of damage with a pounce, you’ll earn the "Jumpin' Jack Smash" achievement. This has also been reported as being buggy when playing online, so to be safe set up a private Versus match with a second controller with your main profile as the Infected. Load up the Crash Course campaign, and with your second controller (as the Survivors) kill off the AI players. Keep spawning your Infected player until you are a Hunter and climb up on the 2-story building next to the Survivors spawn point. Now it’s just a case of simply trying to pounce onto the lone Survivor. If you miss, just climb back up and try again. If you land on the Survivor, it will indicate on-screen how much damage you’ve inflicted. See the video below for better results.

The Sacrifice DLC
The "Chaos Generator" achievement requires you to go cooperate with 3 fellow human beings. You will not be able to earn this on your own as it requires your team to be in 3 different places at once, and seeing how the AI love to protect you this isn’t possible. Get yourself on the Gaming Sessions here at TA and look out for sessions that include this achievement. Once you have the required amount of people, simply split up and stand next to all 3 generators in the Port finale. This is where you’ll need to communicate with each other. You’ll all need to start up the generators at the same time. It doesn’t matter if the timing is exact, they just need to be started at roughly the same time. If you’re successful the achievement will pop shortly afterwards.

Again, you’ll need a buddy or two to help you out with this one. Just make sure you are playing as the Infected. Once the Survivors have started all 3 generators (see the "Chaos Generator" achievement above), they’ll then have to fight off 1 or 2 tanks, along with a few waves of Horde. This shouldn’t prove too much of a challenge. If you spawn as the Tank, do not attack the Survivors, instead just let them kill you. Once the Survivors have killed enough Tanks, the bridge will be accessible. The Survivors will then need to climb up to the top of the bridge, and flick the switch to raise it, at which point during the raising process it will get stuck. This will force one of the Survivors to sacrifice themselves by activating the generator to help in the bridge-raising effort, hence “The Sacrifice”. Instead of one of the Survivors activating the broken generator, jump off the bridge and head into the alley to the right. Here you will be waiting as a Special Infected, ready to incapacitate the Survivor. This should net you the achievement. It is easier to incapacitate the Survivor in the alley as either a Smoker or a Hunter. A Boomer will also work, but is not 100% reliable.
As a Special Infected, incap someone who is trying to sacrifice themselves.
