| NHL is the only sports game that I buy day 1 every year. I'm excited for this one but was hoping for HUT to get some more improvements. |

It appears Tim Hortens has done a deal with EA Sports as I see their logo at center ice and on the end boards. I think this is a great touch but where is the realism in this ?? Tim Hortens advertising in San Jose, CA and/or Phoenix (Glendale), AZ as I seen in the trailer......really ?? EA Sports you need to do your homework in producing a truly "realistic" hockey experience.
"If it's in the game, it's in the game" , EA Sports catch phrase for realism in their sports' titles. If the Jobbing.com arena DOES have Tim Hortens advertising at center ice and on the end boards a million apologies EA. I just don't recall this from watching last year's Coyotes home games during the playoffs.
Unless someone here on TA who lives in these areas can confirm the existance of Tim Hortens' coffee shops in Southern California or Arizona please enlighten me. I understand Tim Hortens has branched out to opening stores in New York state and Michigan but have I been living under a rock or has this coffee franchise taken over the entire United States overnight ??
Enough of my rant regarding realism.....the gameplay looks great and I like what I seen in the trailer. Looks like it could be fun to play. |

I was going to post a long rant about EA flooding us with updates disguised as new games every year and how perhaps the reason they have too many servers up is the amount of games they release, but there is no point. They want to make money and if they could decide, there would be two seasons of (in this case) NHL every year, so that they could release two NHL games every year.
This is getting a bit long again, better stop here.
To everyone reading this, im sorry for wasting your time. |

Skating backwards in the offensive zone looks like it will be a problem this year. The demonstrator is using it a lot in this trailer. Looks like it's very easy to get into the slot. (Not a good thing)
Other than that, it's another Day 1 buy for me. :) |

To everyone reading this, im sorry for wasting your time.Yeah, it is kind of a waste of time isn't it. Unfortunately for you, there has been some great changes since your last on card game in a new physics engine, the CHL licence added, HUT mode, Be a Legend mode and licences, interviews with gretzky talking about different records, and a bucketload of smaller tweeks that make gameplay generally better. A lot of the employees at EA Canada are contract employees, so they work hard or they lose their jobs, so obviously they are working on something in between editions.
The sad thing is, that since we are in the console generation where it is all about sequels. If you think about it, NHL has probably undergone more changes than many of these first/third person shooter franchises. It is more work to get the AI on a game to act like a real athlete to counter a thinking player than it is to make a new level or map in terms of dev work. Is there really that much difference between Gears 1 and Gears 3?
I think is Gears is great but when you play it, I don't feel a significant difference between Gears 1 and 3, but I do with NHL 10 to 12. Really, almost all of todays sequels could be called updates as well. |

Looks like it could be fun to play.I'm guessing that the board advertisements are probably dynamic and will change throughout the season depending on who wants to give EA the most money, probably little to do with "realism".
Can't say it really bugs me though. I barely even notice them. It looks realistic and that's enough for me lol. |
But if the silence takes you, then I hope it takes me too. |

Really, almost all of todays sequels could be called updates as well.Like you say, i have not kept up with the changes. I used to enjoy playing NHL, both on XBOX360 and older consoles. My biggest issue though, maybe only when it comes down to it, is that you cant buy an NHL game and then keep enjoying it over the coming years because you are forced to upgrade. What if me and my friends dont care about all the new stuff and just want to enjoy that NHL game we bought a few years back without having to shell out for a new expensive one, because they are expensive in Sweden, they dont drop much in price the first year. For comparison, the Gears 1 servers are still up i believe.
But im not here to fight or troll or whatever, i just wanted to express my sadness of the fact that EA, in their pursuit to make better games (and make money, of course), are scaring a lot of people away from their games.
I actually found this 'conversation' healthy, its good to hear the views of 'the other side' from time to time. |

It would be nice if they made sure the ads weren't so repetative, in my NHL12 I had some games where there were the same gillette ad every second panel. Of course, the next game they are in different spots, where in real world, the only ones that change that fast are the electronic ads that some arenas have.
I have a feeling the ads are focused based on the account though, so someone owning the game in phoenix would probably not even see a timmies ad. |

At least to some extent. You would think, but those ads are for revenue generation so they will want to show the target audience (Canadian account holders in Tim Horton's Case) as many ads as they can, and they wouldn't show very many if they only did so in Canadian arenas.(unless you were playing in CHL)
I was playing NHL 12 today and didn't see too many gillette ones, now every second ad is for the remake Total Recall movie. |
