Sacred Citadel Coming to XBLA

Filling the void before Sacred 3

Sacred is a series that fans would automatically associate with the RPG genre. With Ascaron Entertainment's demise in 2009, publisher Deep Silver acquired the rights to the series and they seem to want to take the genre in a couple of directions. Although the company has confirmed that developer Keen Games is currently developing Sacred 3, the action RPG has not been officially announced yet. Instead, the publisher has revealed details about an XBLA game intended to act as a prologue to Sacred 3: Southend Interactive are developing Sacred Citadel.

Sacred Citadel is a game that is hard to pigeonhole. It is a side-scrolling action brawler with both beat 'em up and hack and slash elements. Although intended to act as a prologue of sorts, the title is also meant to be a standalone game that is set in the world of Sacred. Three warriors come together to conquer an evil that is threatening the world of Ancaria. Lord Zane has created a new asset for his Ashen Empire; an army of modified Orc henchmen, otherwise known as Grimmocs, are now at war with the Seraphim.
The game promises to reveal a secret about the Seraphim that will relate directly to Sacred 3.

Players will be able to choose from several character classes. Each will have a different skill set that can be characterised to individual play styles through "RPG features and collectible items". The characters will be able to use combo attacks and perform double jumps, as well as having the ability to dual-wield two weapons, which can be exchanged throughout the game. Players will also be able to ride mounts, use war machines and earn cash as they progress onwards. This cash can be used in towns across the world of Ancaria. Three character classes have been confirmed so far - Safiri Warrior, Ancarian Ranger and Khukuri Shaman - and these can be seen in the screenshots below:

The game encompasses a multiplayer mode that sees up to three players unite in drop-in/drop-out co-op. Check out this trailer that shows the game in action:



Sacred Citadel is due to be released in 2013.

Was hoping this was Sacred 1 when I read the title. Never played it, but would like to. Sacred 2 is my favorite RPG on the Xbox.

I actually liked Sacred 2. And the game did turn my GF on to Blind Guardian, so that was cool.

Ive been waiting and waiting for a sequel to Sacred 2, easily my favourite RPG on 360, pity you dont get many of the old style RPGs now. Gotta say though, from the screens, not too excited about it but will probably still get it!

I'm liking the smooth frame rate and graphics. Interesting concept after Sacred 2. Fingers crossed for Sacred 3!
