More Borderlands DLC On The Horizon

Borderlands was a surprise hit after its October release last year, the cel-shaded, FPS-RPG hybrid from a relatively unestablished developer that surprised pundits and critics alike, raking in unexpected sales of over two million copies, and garnering acclaim for its undiluted hardcore approach. Unsurprisingly, the game's publishers Take-Two recently said that they own the publishing rights to the game, and expect it to become a "key franchise" for the company.

In a recent interview with IGN, Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford revealed the development team's plans for further Borderlands content. When asked about the prospect of a sequel, Pitchford said:
We are investing a lot of time in supporting the game with free updates and paid downloadable content. There will be some announcements on both fronts soon, I expect. We have a lot of motivation to do more with the game and have a lot of lessons we're applying not only to our immediate efforts, but to our ambitions for the future. I don't have anything specifics to announce at this time, though.
To further substantiate the evidence for more DLC, Gearbox developer Jason Reiss posted the following earlier today on their forum:
After finalizing Zombies DLC, the team and I began reading the DLC feedback around the forums on the wants and desires. Guess what, level cap increase anyone? Got it and it's awesome. Hopefully we can get a full announcement out to you guys soon but, man is this the biggest DLC we have made. So don’t worry, we are working really hard right now on both the update (that solves a bunch of issues) and the DLC. More to come guys!!
Biggest DLC yet? Raised level cap? Free updates? Ticking every box by the sounds of it. We're definitely seeing an increase lately of developers and publishers actually listening to us gamers and what we want in our games, and I for one applaud that sentiment.
