Gamescom 2012: DmC Artwork Showcases Vergil

Gamescom 2012: DmC Artwork Showcases Vergil

There's trailer-y goodness inside, too!

Nearly two years ago, Capcom revealed that they would be bringing DmC: Devil May Cry, a game that will focus on Dante's origins, to consoles.

The game is now mere months from release, so Capcom has wisely utilized Gamescom as a space to release some details about and images of one of the title's characters, Vergil. Vergil, who is Dante's twin brother, has quite a back story of his own:

Vergil is Dante’s twin brother. While Dante was put into an orphanage run by demons and ended up a street kid, Vergil was adopted into a rich, educated and very privileged home. A highly intelligent and gifted individual, he wrote a security encryption program that eventually made him a multi-millionaire before he even finished school.
Vergil hates the demons for having killed his mother and enslaved his father and uses his riches in the single minded pursuit to bring them down. Calculating and dispassionate, Vergil’s decisions are always logical, strategic and never emotional. He formed the underground organisation known as The Order to research the demons with the goal of toppling their hold over humanity.

There's more to see than just Vergil, of course:

In addition to all the screens, Capcom also released details as to the arsenal of weapons Dante will have at his disposal:

-“Rebellion”: Dante’s trusted sword, given by his father Sparda, provides a great mix of combos and attacks, great for sending enemies skyward.
-“Ebony & Ivory”: These guns are good for keeping enemies at bay, maintaining combos and juggling enemies in the air.
-“Arbiter”: a demonic axe that can deliver massive blows and break through enemy shields.
-“Osiris”: an angelic scythe with fast attacks and great for crowd control.
-“Eryx”: powerful demonic gauntlets that pack enough punch to parry even the strongest attacks and juggle the heaviest enemies.

DmC: Devil May Cry, which is being developed by a team that includes veterans from past Devil May Cry entries, will be released on January 15th.

Am I the only one that is against this Vergil. I mean really. A good guy who hates demons, wants to save the world, being a leader of the order (who I believe are based on anonymous) and looking nothing like his twin brother Dante (even being nice to each other). This is like turning Batman into Joker and opposite. Oh I can see again youtube videos filled with negative comments regarding this Vergil (well at least he's not as bad at his reveal as Dante when he was first revealed) but still. He'll be never as good and awesome as DMC3 Vergil and I just began accepting DmC as a good game (maybe even worth purchasing one day) but now it pushed me into the negative side again.Wonder what else will Ninja Theary will do to kill all that was left from good old DMC games. I'm not impressed with the direction this DmC is going as a hardcore DMC fan.

Even though this game looks pretty cool gameplay wise, I just cannot get over the fact that they're raping the DMC legacy.

Ugh! It's like they're trying the MGS-twin-thing (identical twins who look nothing alike, ex. Solid Snake and Liquid Snake).

Wow, looks like someone had to write a report on Devil May Cry but all they did was skim wikipedia. They didn't even copy/paste, they just wrote down what they thought Devil May Cry was about.
-but they were daydreaming the whole time so they accidentally mixed it up with some of the artsy-fuck indie movies they had seen recently. And then they couldn't really remember what Devil May Cry was about anyway so they just added and changed what they did remember because they thought it was sound cooler that way. All while crossing their fingers and hoping that nobody had actually played Devil May Cry before.

Then Capcom asked them to make it into a game.

DmC: Devil May Cry, which is being developed by a team that includes veterans from past Devil May Cry entries, will be released on January 15th. That's like having Terrence Malick direct a Tarantino movie w/o Tarantino but it's cool because Harvey Keital is producing it - so it'll practically turn out the same.
