TA Gaming Stats - August 13th to August 19th 2012

Latest weekly game and achievement stats for TA members

Written by Dog of Thunder on 28 August 12 at 12:59

When I was promoted at the end of July to a LTA (Library Technical Assistant) position, I knew something would have to give because afterall, there is only 24 hours in the day. Unless you fly west, in which case there's the potential for a magical 28 hour hangover. After 2 and a half years, life as a Newshound for TrueAchievements is coming to an end.

In 2 weeks, ChewieOnIce will begin his duties as the new stats guy for TA. I hope he falls flat on his face so I look great in retrospect succeeds and elevates stats to a new level.

Regardless, let's take a look at a week of pretty numbers!

This report is for the period August 13th to August 19th 2012.

Games Started
14,248 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 20,806 games between them (1,562 different games).

Darksiders II promises to liven up the chart with a fresh dose of Death.

Alright, "liven" may be the wrong choice of words, but we finally have a fresh new Triple-A retail title! Sleeping Dogs, a title saved from cancellation, is right behind Darksiders II. The TA Stats Committee (of One) fully expects these two to be engaged in a bare-knuckle brawl worthy of 19th century English gentlemen for the next few weeks.

Significantly less exciting, we have the same games from the last few weeks. The number drop off from #2 to #3 is telling, and what it seems to be telling is "Please give me something new to play before I run through Borderlands for the 20th time."

I'd also comment on Darksiders, but since I only recently dove the game myself, I'm not one to talk about people behind the times.

Top Retail Games Started

Dust: An Elysian Tail was a great way to finish off the Summer of Arcade. The gorgeous action-RPG, pro-furries title was the work of one man. Such talented, creative people make me feel like I should do something productive with my life. Not only did 985 of you decide to be productive by rewarding a fairly unique title in Dust: An Elysian Tale but the overall number for it is rapidly approaching 3k.

On the other end of the creative spectrum, specifically the bottom, we have The Expendables 2 Videogame. I really don't have to say anything else about this game beyond pointing out how it felt the need to say "Videogame" in the title. Praise Jabootu (God of Horrible Movies, Nic Cage is his Prophet here on Earth) that Zootfly made sure I wasn't accidently purchasing the movie.

Let's talk about the The Walking Dead, as Hybrid continues to slowly approach 1k gamers. I feel bad for 5th Cell, as Hybrid has a number of interesting concepts, but really, unless you're relasing an XBLA version of an established, world-renowned multiplayer shooter, the downloadable sector is NOT the place for a multiplayer only, online only shooter.

Top Arcade Games Started

Little Acorns (WP)? Seriously? Who names these WP games? When I think of little acorns, I think of nuts, and when I think of nuts I think of Hans Moleman:

In other, nut related titles, Gun Bros (WP) continues to hang around and has even had an uptick in its community rating. Fellow Glu Mobile title, Contract Killer (WP) also had an uptick in its community rating to coincide with yet more fools gamers picking it up. Sally's Spa (WP) failed to gain much ground from last week, which means it's time for Sally to call in Tabitha.

Much like last week's blaming of seeing Step Up: Revolution on my wife, I'll also blame her for introducing me to Tabitha on Season 1 of Shear Genius and then again for her own show. Yup, all her fault....that's the ticket....

Top Windows Phone Games Started

Games Completed
6,070 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 8,405 games between them (1,177 different games).

I am typing this with an incredulouslook on my face as somehow, 87 of you finished Sleeping Dogs within days of its release. Even more impressive? 659 660 of you overall have finished Sleeping Dogs. Yes, between me starting the sentence and then coming back to double check (which despite popular belief does happen!), one more of you completed the game. It's still on my list of games to check out in 2015 when I have free time again.

52 of you also finished The Darkness II during its first week of rel....hey wait a minute, you sir, are not Darksiders II! Only 119 have completed THQ's latest in its first week, and yes, I really did mis-read the chart. That's what old age does to you.

Top Retail Games Completed

What a totally random Fez appearance, it's not like it was patched recently or anything. 70 of you did not take your time to stop and smell the roses en route to finishing off Dust: An Elysian Tale, especially since it was released on the 15th and only counted for 5 days of this chart. Deadlight continues to earn its rep as being "easy" as does Magic: The Gathering - DotP 2013, another frequent visitor to this chart.

For old time's sake, I'll give one last shout out to Harm's Way, the game I hate above all others on this chart because it's ALWAYS HERE AND WILL NEVER GO AWAY. EVER! YOU HAVE BEATEN ME YOU STRANGE RACING/SHOOTING CONTRAPTION YOU! I AM BROKEN!

Top Arcade Games Completed

Collapse! (WP) Watch 2012 Update!

Only 175 lazy gamers have yet to complete the game widely described as "Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Burning Earth for the WP!" and "Oddly Titilating!"

In what I am sure is a first for the TA Stats and is definitely a first for me, we have a four-way! geoDefense (WP), Bug Village (WP), Fruit Ninja (WP) and Feed Me Oil (WP) all were completed exactly 18 times during the past week. That's exciting mildly interesting.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
38,978 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 535,605 achievements online between them (45,051 different achievements).

This is much more like it, as thw two top retail titles managed to split the chart perfectly.

Top Retail Achievements Won

This is what happens during the Summer of Arcade when people can actually play the latest game. A clean sweep.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

Finally we have this, a clean sweep broken up by Gun Bros., which also gives me my final opportunity at publicly asking for the whole "bro" thing to be taken out into the wilds of the Mexican desert, forced to dig a grave, kneel in front of it, and then get shot in the back of the head.

In related news, I'll go a see a movie just because of Benicio del Toro.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre

A wise man, with access to a release calendar, predicted that Action-Adventure would dominate this week. Go me!

This is the end folks, so I hope you continue to enjoy the weekly stats here at TrueAchievements as the baton is being passed to the new generation.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to place myself under glass with instructions for the News Managers to break open in case of emergency.

Celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the day that the Wife of Thunder and I met on our college campus, waiting for the Dining Commons to open. We met September 3rd, 2002 at 7:45 in the morning.

At the time, I had no idea that I would happily spend the rest of my life with her.

Always appreciate the stats, DoT. Fantastic job. clap

On another note, is there anyway to get WP completions and GS to be counted separately from XBLA as a third category? I heard that they count together as Arcade. I do not have nor plan on getting one, but can't compete in XBLA leaderboards against those folks. Seems unfair and the phone games are different from XBLA.

Kinda disappointed the recent unbelievably awesome DLC sales for Kingdoms of Amalur and Saints Row: The Third weren't credited for both games re-appearing on the "Completed Games" chart.

Massively disappointed DoT is retiring as a Newshound. All the best for your work, and thanks for making TA a more awesome place to hang out. Hopefully Sleeping Dogs tops the charts next week. That'll be some tribute ;)

Oh please, if I remembered to discuss everything, I wouldn't be me. :-)

Great catch, though KoA makes me a bit sad everytime I see it in the stats.

For once i have contributed this week by actually starting a game that I have bought (Sleeping Dogs) and what a great game it is too.

I wonder which is worse regarding Expendables 2, the movie or the game. They both look pretty bad.

Hilarious stats again from DoT, congratulations on your anniversary and congratulations to Mrs Thunder who found a guy who can remember when they met. I ALWAYS get in trouble with dates and 'firsts'.

Glad to see Dust doing so well, I should support that 1 man army and buy it full price before it goes on sale. He deserves it.
