Happy Wars - The Free-to-Play XBLA Game

Happy Wars - The Free-to-Play XBLA Game

Now I have your attention!

Written by litepink on 25 August 12 at 04:13 | Credit to CounterInsurgnt

The announcement and subsequent news for the upcoming XBLA game Happy Wars has been met with a fair amount of enthusiasm. What's not to love? Frantic multiplayer spilling with destruction and devastation, coupled with cutesy warriors that you can customize to your heart's content. Tack on some 15 vs. 15 multiplayer and you have a formula for fun!

A major (and justified) concern with a XBLA multiplayer game with such large battles, is that the online population may quickly dwindle, making the purchase you made with those hard-earned Microsoft bucks a lot less valuable. Microsoft Studios all but squashed that fear by announcing that Happy Wars will be completely free-to-play for all Xbox LIVE Gold members. I mean, who wouldn't want a free-to-play XBLA game, right?

We're careful to make sure we say "free-to-play", as there will be elements of the game like character customization and additional weapons that can be purchased separately aka micro-transactions. Fear not though, as these are described as optional, and developer ToyLogic is mindful not to make any of the customization options game breaking. Free players won't get trounced by those with deep pockets.

Now that your interest in this game is likely heightened, why not check out this new trailer:

The free-to-play Happy Wars hits XBLA soon, sometime this fall.

A free-to-play XBLA game published by MS? So the next step is to delay it 9 months and release it to retail for Kinect 2.0?

So if it is 100 percent completable and not a horrid free game like the others camped on my hard drive it may be worth the time to download.

As long as it doesn't entirely require online players (add the option for bots), I'm all up for it.

I'm actually not bitter anymore. Not about that anyway. 1 vs. 100 is another story...

Ah, did not realize that their was a backstory to that game.

As for 1vs100...yeah, RIP. Such a great game. I'd play it even without the prizes.

Me Gusta. Hopefully the microtranactions are similar to Team Fortress 2, where hats and weapons bought with money really don't affect your skill in the game.

Most likely it will be an easier completion if you pony up some cash but I'm sure it'll be free.

Now you guys know I hate micro trans, but this is a different story. You are not paying a thing for the game and you do not NEED to buy anything. So in this case I support this game 100% as of now with the info we have on it.

It looks great and I can't wait. One would assume that this game will be played by people for many many years.

Free to play plus getting items by either micro transactions or random drops plus being able to customize character? This is like a hack and slash version of Team Fortress 2 on Steam. I'm in!

Is this an MMO? A free MMO that connects the entire xbox live community would be pretty cool. Also, pay to customise instead of pay to win is pretty cool and will keep a lot of players interested in this. People always quit games where they cannot be the best because they won't pay real life money, when I was a teenager and played MMO's, I usually ended up quitting due to some out of my control unfairness, usually somebody was either A: hacking/modding item stats or duplicating items to make themselves rich or B: the best players were all paying real-life cash to upgrade equipment/get rare/powerful gear and it sucked for the "legit" players such as myself that no matter how long you played/grinded you were always behind. dance
