developer Techland has announced that, as well as working on standalone expansion Dead Island Riptide
, they are also developing a brand new IP, tentatively titled Project Hell
. They have also set up a blog
detailing the ongoing development of the title, including a breakdown of how the idea grew for the dark-fantasy set, magic and melee title.Combining the fighting mechanics of Dead Island and adding magic (literally) we created a powerful mixture – a dark fantasy FPP hack’n'slash. We want to travel back to the times when enemies were really hideous and repulsive, the fights were brutal and bloody and the gameplay was challenging and rich with secrets waiting to be uncovered.
Interestingly, the idea for the game came about when one of the Dead Island
development team experimented with a mod that would allow the player to freeze zombies and then hack them into shards with dual-wielded swords. The immense amount of addictive fun generated by the the mod made such an impression, a new game prototype was soon in the works.
As well as releasing info about the game's roots and development, the team have also begun to release some gnarly early concept art for environments, monsters and weapons.
There aren't many more details about the game so far, including any confirmation of which platorms it will be coming to or a release window, but keep your eyes here on TA and on the game's blog
as more information develops.
