TrueAchievements Battle Royale Winner

Finishing the fight

Written by N0T PENNYS B0AT on 17 September 12 at 08:20

The battle took over a month and the imaginary deaths of 31 of gaming's protagonists, but we eventually got to the finale of our Battle Royale. After the dust settled, after all the swords were sheathed, the guns were holstered, and the corpses disposed of, one hero still remained. Yes, it might be predictable, but with over 50,000 votes tallied throughout, and over 3,600 votes just in the finals, you can't deny the turnout. Your winner, TA'ers: the space marine, John-117, Master Chief.

TA BR

Let's recap his path to the winner's circle. In Round 1, he took on Lee Everett from The Walking Dead. Lee proved no match for Chief, as he was quickly destroyed by Chief, 78.1% to 21.9%.

Chief advanced to Round 2 to take on the Big Daddy, Subject Delta, from BioShock 2. This one was a bit closer, but still Chief prevailed with 66.9% of the vote. The plasmids and drill weren't enough for MC's armor and military prowess.

In Round 3, Chief faced someone nearly as popular as he is: John Marston, the gunslinging bandit-turned-family man from Red Dead Redemption. Marston might be a ruthless outlaw, but he was outmatched by the space marine, like everyone else before him. Master Chief prevailed with 62.4% of the vote.

In the semi-final, Chief faced his most well-matched opponent yet: Mass Effect's hero of the galaxy, Commander Shepard. An extremely close vote made things very exciting, and many of you voiced your support for both players in what was one of the most popular matchups of the tournament. Ultimately, MC survived with just 51.3% of the vote.

Then, finally, after weeks of debate and voting, Master Chief met his opponent for the finals. He was another protagonist with a series of games, ensuring both would be very popular. Ezio Auditore, of Assassin's Creed, traveled by gondola to take on the hero of Halo. Over a three day vote, over 3,600 votes were tallied in the finals. As the poll closed, it was Master Chief who stood victorious with exactly 55% of the vote. It was Ezio's own fault for bringing a hidden blade to an assault rifle fight.

We'd like to thank everyone who participated. Many of you have already sent me ways to improve this in the future and expressed the fun you have had with it during the slow month of August and beyond. If you have any more suggestions, send them my way. Let us know if you'd like to see something like this again in the future. Thanks for hanging out with us on TrueAchievements!

Amazingly, not once did a match-up involve two characters from games I have played. redface

I only voted once, but thanks for doing this. Many of the battles brought up some interesting conversations.

Get onto that game at once!
I know I need to play Read Dead and Bioshock play Bayonetta at least. Probably Lara Croft but not CoD.

ick...i voted against the Chief in every single round
Halo is more played out and boring than COD is and ive never liked Master Chief. you know that whole mysterious I-cant-see-your-face-so-you-must-be-cool popularity he has? its not my thing
oh well, at least my personal pick - Commander Shepard - got to the Semis. and im proud that Shepard was the closest adversary for Master Chief so thats cool
Just know that I'm better than you.

Plut Backwards - Well, luckily Dead Island: Riptide probably doesn't have the deepest plot because I think I accidentally spoiled it.

Well done to the Chief, a very predictable win, but a win all the same.

Fanboys or not you can't deny the fact he is a Super Solider with highly advanced weaponry, close combat skills and a multi billion dollar suit with a energy shield and with the most advanced AI created. In the end he simply has more of an edge against other people. It's logical he won, oh well the whole thing was kinda fun anywayz. Thanks guys!

What an absolute letdown. I knew this was all crap when the man who killed a bunch of brainless silly grunts, won over the man who killed goddamn reapers.

Bit of a pointless competition imo.

Not even a slight shock. Was easy to call the winner when the names were announced.
