NBA LIVE 13 Is Cancelled

EA Sports basketball franchise gets slam dunked again

Written by Kendrene on 28 September 12 at 16:00

EA Sport is the developer of many successful franchises in the sports games genre, but NBA basketball seems destined not to be one. It's always sad news when a game is cancelled and today we bring you news that NBA Live 13, which was supposed to launch this October, will never see the light of day. Here is the official statement, in the words of Andrew Wilson, Executive Vice President of EA SPORTS.

After a lot of consideration, we have made the decision to not launch NBA LIVE 13. I'd like to give you a bit of perspective.

When we started the process of bringing back NBA LIVE, we knew it was going to be a long journey. We started by moving the game to a new studio. We brought in some of the best new technology that has helped fuel innovation in our other games. We launched an even deeper level of engagement with our community to gather more feedback directly from fans. And we built a whole new development team to bring it all to life. We felt like we were on the right path.

We also made a commitment to deliver a high quality experience — this is what our fans expect and what we demand of ourselves at EA SPORTS. But making great games is not easy, and we're just not there yet on NBA LIVE 13. Having continued to look at the game over the past few days, it's clear that we won't be ready in October. And rather than launch midway through the season, we're going to sit out the full year and stay focused on making next year’s game great. This decision puts us on the right track for success well into the future in a rapidly changing industry.
Virtual basketball is still alive and kicking however, so those of you who are fans of the sport should check out the latest trailer for NBA 2K13, which is sporting some trendy shoes indeed. Thanks to all the community members that sent the basketball and this piece of news rolling our way.

Ouch. Again? There were rumors that this was going to be a 1600 MSP download anyways which should tell you how lacking it would have been if those rumors were true. Oh well. The 2K series is the greatest sports franchise in gaming history, so I don't think most people will miss this.

The Sports game craze is dying; EA the first to go.

Next, it'll be NHL, Tiger Woods, then MLB, then Madden. FIFA will be the only one left.

No man, Madden won't die, I can see the others dying sometime, I doubt it, but it could happen, but there's just no way Madden will die, football is too popular in the states. The only way it could die is if someone besides EA had rights to publish a NFL game, and we know they won't let that happen.

Actually good news...? Maybe they will start doing this with more games so there is more quality in them! Put time into these game, stop rush releasing each year for profits. This should also mean the last games servers should stay up longer? This also may be due to the huge success of nba2k12?

I played NBA Live 06 once. Garbage game. I hope the entire series goes belly-up. The sports franchise has been milking the series for years. I like the Madden games, but I don't buy them when they come out. I wait a few years, get them for $5 or less, and then get the achievements. People spending $60 on them are just wasting their money.

If they would have released it, then they would have heard all the cries from people saying its a terrible game. Or if they fixed it everyone would cry that the game came out too late.

And I think the VP said it correctly. It is tough to make great games, especially when there is great competition from 2K sports. EA is taking an excellent approach to this. If they can make a better game next year, great for us! If they can't make a good game with 2 years in the making, then they should hang up their flag to 2K just like they did to EA on the NFL games (or were they bought out? I forgot).

Maybe this is a sign that EA is trying to turn them self around to make everyone happy. People got to admit, they make a lot of great games. If it wasn't for the server or the achievement issues, their base game are usually fun.

Madden will not die if America keeps buying them
Fifa will not die if Europe keeps buying them
NHL will not did if Canada keeps buying them

Now I am not the that the other regions don't buy these games but these are the places what would have the highest sales figures for these games.
