Karateka Revealed for the Xbox LIVE Arcade

By SgtDigglesworth,
It can be a joyous day for some gamers from the "older generation" when a classic game is being re-invented, re-shaped and essentially re-announced. Such is the case for Karateka which was recently revealed to be coming to the Xbox LIVE Arcade.

Karateka, originally programmed for the Apple II and the Commodore 64, and then adapted for the NES, is the brain-child of Jordan Mechner. The original game puts the player in the shoes of the "unknown protagonist" who is on the ultimate quest to save his beloved Princess Mariko from the Castle of Akuma.

Karateka blends the beauty of side-scrolling beat em' up gameplay and fighting mechanics, and in the case of the XBLA port, the original concept of the game is still the same, yet is now being infused with a total overhaul to the graphics and gameplay.

The updated title will be published by D3Publisher, with developement from Liquid Entertainment and Jordan Mechner, who subsequently worked on the Prince of Persia franchise. The XBLA version will also feature artwork from Jeff Matsuda, who worked on Batman: The Animated Series and a musical score by Christopher Tin who worked on the score for Civilization V.
