Achievement Preview Spotlight: Dance Central 3

Oh you can tell by the way I use my walk

Written by osubluejacket on 10 October 12 at 21:14

This week's Achievement Preview Spotlight focuses on one of the shining beacons on the Kinect hill, Dance Central 3. While many games struggle with either shoehorning Kinect into a more "standard" game or general shoddy controls, Harmonix has really taken center stage with their dance game, providing two sterling examples of exactly what Microsoft's big bet can do. In anticipation of this Tuesday's release of their third Dance Central title, let's take a look at how you'll be shaking your groove thing... if that's what the kids are still doing.

One of the big selling points to many Kinect games is that it's a sneaky way to exercise. Playing off of that fact, the following achievement shouldn't be much of a problem for most gamers.

Dance Central 3 First-degree Burn The First-degree Burn achievement in Dance Central 3 worth 24 pointsTrack and burn at least 100 calories in any mode.

100 calories can be burned by doing simple things like: shopping (for 38 minutes), walking the dog (for 26 minutes... 10 minutes if you own a Border Collie), or cleaning with moderate effort (for 26 minutes), so burning 100 calories while dancing shouldn't be too taxing.

Social Networking achievements tend to be a bur under the saddle of some gamers, but consider this, in the days before TA, we had to use archaic networks like MySpace to talk about games *shudder*. The next achievement harkens back to those days... and lines Mark Zuckerberg's pocket a little more.

Dance Central 3 We're Friends, Right? The We're Friends, Right? achievement in Dance Central 3 worth 44 pointsLink Dance Central 3 to your Facebook account.

Fortunately, this achievement should be relatively painless and you'll only have to let a few other non-gamers know that you're becoming a better dancer through science.

Endurance challenges are always "fun". Nothing beats being forced to play a game for hours on end without a break. Without some definitive parameters, this next achievement could be a bladder buster.

Dance Central 3 Up All Night The Up All Night achievement in Dance Central 3 worth 74 pointsStart a Party before midnight and play 'til morning.

Positive Spin: You might be able to start playing at 11:55pm and only have to play until 12:01am.

Negative Spin: Your neighbors might end up hating you.

Achievements that are time/day sensitive are always an easy work around. Just take your 360 offline and change the date on your console, right? Well, if that's your game, you might have to spend a few hours offline because several achievements will necessitate you doing a bit of date-monkeying... and not the fun type that involves bananas and a bow-tie for Bubbles.

Dance Central 3 Daily Grind The Daily Grind achievement in Dance Central 3 worth 58 pointsPerform a song in Dance Central 3 every day for at least 7 days in a row.

Playing every day for a week doesn't sound too bad, but (without the aforementioned date-monkeying) it will be something you'll need to keep in mind.

The last achievement in this spotlight could be the white whale for the game, as someone without any rhythm or dance moves (except the white man's overbite), there's no way I could get this one.

Dance Central 3 OMG Indeed! The OMG Indeed! achievement in Dance Central 3 worth 422 pointsEarn 5 stars on "OMG" on Hard difficulty.

Because I'm an old man trapped in a young(ish) man's body, I had to do a quick search for what this achievement would entail. I dug up this video:

HOW DO PEOPLE DO THAT?

Dance Central 3 is set to make you sweat starting on October 16th.

If there's an upcoming game that you'd like to see featured in the Achievement Preview Spotlight, be sure to let us know in the comments!

OMG as in oh my god...there is no way in hell I could ever unlock this achievement laugh. I really hope Harmonix returns to the Rock Band franchise soon. We most likely won't see a new game until next system I'm assuming.

Ouch, think I'll be avoiding this one. Such a shame the completion % gets in way of just enjoying a game.

Looking forward to Hitman Absolution, please consider that for your achievement preview spotlight feature. Thanks.

I really hope it doesn't have stupid coop achievements like the one in DC 2 (win 20 dance battles in a row).

Why are the achievement preview articles sticked above news articles? I understand why things like the reviews/competitions are, the former as a form of advertisement for the product and the latter so more people see it and get the chance to take part. Why these though? I'm on the site mostly every day and I'm finding more and more that I'm actually missing news articles because they're being pushed down so fast due to all these other types of articles. I was really lucky to see a gaming session for Test Drive a couple of weeks back, luckier that I clicked on the game and saw in the "Recent News" area that the servers for it were due to close, completely missed that one.

I appreciate all the work you do, just voicing my opinion on what I feel is an increasing issue.

This list looks really easy compared to Dance Central 2. Can't wait, and may end up being a Day One purchase. =D

Hear hear! I also feel the same way. I understand the Reviews/Competitions getting the "top of the page" sticky, but this does not seem to require such treatment. In fact, it's almost insulting that this article gets sticky treatment, when server closures and discontinued achievements get lost in the mess of news stories. If anything, articles concerning server closures and soon-to-be discontinues should be getting the sticky treatment for a couple days after publication. I mean, this is an achievement website right? If achievements that are new to the site and will be achievable for years get front page treatment, surely achievements with a mere 30 days (picking the standard EA number) left in their lives is of higher precedence?
I miss the good old days of WW2 Call of Duty

In my 1 "attempt" at even something remotely called dancing (a 3 step shuffle to assist when literally no one else wanted to), i was laughed at and told that i have no rhythm, no coordination and no swag.

I never tried to dance again (well that's technically a lie, i did something i won't describe but i can say that i brought my friend to the point of collapse on many times during that part while laughing at me. Never again though am i touching the dance floor)

The only person who can pull the OMG achievement successfully without a hitch may be Usher himself and the Choreographer he employed at the time.

Really 100 points though for that? I wonder how many people will sit at 900/1000. But really doesn't look that bad just need practice and memorization. of course I come from a show choir background so maybe I can't speak for the general population.

also surprised no one has commented on the Facebook achievement. I don't have a big problem with it because I already have an account as I'm sure most others do but I feel for those boycotting it

I have no plans on starting a Facebook for this. I guess I'll borrow someone else's. Five-starring OMG on hard should be relatively easy in comparison.
