SEGA Vintage Collection: ToeJam & Earl Announced

XBLA becomes a little more vintage

Written by Lexual on 12 October 12 at 12:12

SEGA has recently announced that the Mega Drive/Genesis classics ToeJam & Earl and ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron will be coming to XBLA next month as a part of their continuing SEGA Vintage Collection and for the first time these two titles will include online co-op.

In ToeJam & Earl, players will have to come to the aid of the two titular aliens to explore a strange and never before explored planet; Earth. After crash landing on Earth because of Earl's erratic piloting, the two aliens must now avoid the strange inhabitants, while they search for the scattered pieces of their spacecraft's wreckage in an attempt to return to their home planet, Funkotron.

ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron continues the story from the original. Upon returning from their journey to Earth, they discover that their ship had picked up some unwanted passengers and now the planet Funkotron is infested by human tourists. The only way to save the planet is to find the human stowaways, catch them in jars and send them back to Earth.

Sega Vintage Collection: ToeJam & Earl will be available on XBLA from November 7th for 800 MSP.

I am so excited for this!! I had so much fun with the first 2 on the genesis! I am glad the 3rd installment is not on this. It was awful. I have it on the original xbox.

Yes!
And kudos to stoketom1986 for at least knowing about Eternal Champions. I was beginning to think I had made the game up. It would be good to have the chance to play again.

A good game back in the day, I completed this with an old buddy, brings back good memories.
However a bit dated gameplay by today's standards. Not sure I'll be getting it.

Eternal Champions, with its varied play-systems and obscure stage-specific fatalities, would actually fit in with the current fighting trends quite well. I love how that franchise has just as many spin-offs as it does main games.

I would love to see a vintage collection of SEGA's old 3D sprite scaling games.

Space Harrier
Power Drift
Galaxy Force

Or have them all redone on XBLA like Afterburner Climax (recommended)
