Doom 3: BFG Edition Launch Trailer Brings You Back

Doom 3: BFG Edition Launch Trailer Brings You Back

Back to Mars, back to Earth, back to Hell and back to the floppy disk era

Written by Dog of Thunder on 16 October 12 at 17:39

Doom is without a doubt, one of the most influential games of all time. DOOM helped the still-fledgling FPS genre find its footing and the unique way in which DOOM was marketed, with a massive push as "shareware", helped lay the groundwork for today's "free-to-play" titles. Now you can relive the era of the floppy disk thanks to this week's release of Doom 3: BFG Edition.

Not only does Doom 3: BFG Edition come with Doom 3, its expansion pack and brand new content, but it also includes the XBLA versions of DOOM and Doom II: Hell on Earth. I'll let the launch trailer show you, rather then just tell you about what else it has up its sleeves:

Take note for those interested in the achievements, as Doom 3: BFG only has 600 Gamerscore associated with it. The additional 400 GS comes from playing the two previous titles, which will not stack with the downloadable XBLA versions.

Regardless, Doom 3 looks amazing and is available right now in North America and this Friday in Australia.

Preodered this on Amazon long ago, can't wait for me to get my copy. I grew up with Doom 1 and Final Doom, but missed out on Doom 3. Time to get caught up!

PS - the Doom movie rocked. Underrated. Karl Urban is cool and The Rock is cool, damnit.
Dog of Thunder - Just finished the craziest Warmachine game ever. 4v4, then 3v2, then 2v1, and I somehow won.

It's a bit of a cop-out regarding the Doom 3 achievements, but hey, at least they didn't skimp on the list! 50 achievements is about standard for a retail game.

I know it's off topic, but my brain doesn't work that way. If I have 4 plastic cups, I can stack them into one pile, thereby saving space and making them 'one cup'. However, that same definition is assbackwards when it comes to achievements. If it's not stackable, then in my mind, like the cups, it's two separate games, two separate lists, not one. So when I see it's NOT stackable, I assume it's two separate lists, because they are not alike and cannot stack on top of each other like plastic cups do.

Anyways, I'm really gutted I can't afford this at the moment. The original Doom games are my favourite games ever, and I'm really itching to finally get round to Doom 3.

This would have been cool had they announced Doom I and Doom II redone on the new engine. Since they did not, there is nothing to see here that my 13 year old self didn't already play with IDDQD turned on.

Not really interested in Doom 3, actually trying to make a coherent story in the Doom world was just silly. Keep it simple: there are demons and they want to kill you, while you have a gun and want to live.

The Doom movie was bad (saw it opening night), but there's far worse movies out there. Like Max Payne. Or anything with Adam Sandler in it.

Also, NOBODIES complained how BFG edition only has 600G? I'm impressed.

EDIT - Someone mentioned Uwe Boll. Postal was a good movie, dammit.
