Trion Worlds are currently hard at work on their upcoming MMO-shooter Defiance.

In a world where humans and aliens co-exist on a planet ravaged by years of conflict, gamers will encounter numerous enemies and indulge in combat from a 3rd-person point of view. Players will be treated with the combination of the Syfy Channels TV show that portrays the many dramatic events featured in the stories plot and the scale and customisation of an MMO.

Developers are promising that the TV show and the games universe will co-exist and evolve together over time. Here is a developer diary to help explain more of what you can expect from the Defiance universe.

Here is a breakdown of some of the key features and some screens from the co-op aspect of the game, as well as some PvP screens.
An Adventure For The Masses – Intense third-person shooter gameplay focused on story-driven missions designed to be played solo or with thousands of other live players in the world around you.

A Massive, Persistent World – Fully realized, persistent open world set in a futuristic San Francisco Bay Area, supporting tens of thousands of simultaneous live players.

Customize Your Character – Custom character creation, where you can play as a human or alien, modify your appearance, upgrade weapons, select different specializations, and become a unique citizen of the Defiance universe .

Player Progression Evolved – Console-native shooter with a multitude of weapons, armors, and special abilities that evolve with experience.

Unending Gameplay – With missions, emergencies, and endless exploration opportunities across a giant game world, Defiance is the genre-changing title that is sure to keep players engaged for years.

I'm looking forward to this game. Never played an MMO since I only play Xbox, & the ones released weren't to appealing to me until this. Hopefully it's good. My first experience in an MMO it will be if so, & to top it off it's Sci-fi, & I'm a Sci-fi guy.

Yes of course the game looks great for an MMO.. But what they forget to mention yet is that it probably has a membership p2p pass.. either 10-15 a month I'm guessing. Unless they just make it free to play with the choice to buy with your own money stuff from the shops. But it will not be completely free to play :/

Too many people these days complaining about things not being free instead of thinking about server hosting costs, future game development costs, and the fact that the people making and hosting the game need to get paid too. Or do you think they can get their food for free if they let you play for free?

Anyways I would bet it will be free to play with a cash shop, that seems to be the best way to make money, so if you really don't want to pay, you probably won't have to.
