Achievement Preview Spotlight: Assassin's Creed 3

Give me achievements or give me death

Written by osubluejacket on 24 October 12 at 12:41

Over 200 years ago, a rag-tag group of (possibly drunk) farmers patriots fought off the most powerful army on the planet and gained independence for their new homeland. Next week is your chance to enter those times with the help of Desmond Miles and the Animus as Assassin's Creed III hits consoles. As you might expect, one of this year's biggest releases is in this week's Achievement Preview Spotlight.

Like every game in the Assassin's Creed series, a good majority of the achievements are tied to finishing the various Sequences (missions/levels) throughout the story. That being said, there are a number of achievements that are worth noting.

Assassin's Creed III No Good Deed Goes Unpunished The No Good Deed Goes Unpunished achievement in Assassin's Creed III worth 27 pointsOpen the Temple Door and learn Desmond's fate.

As someone who felt a little burned by the cliffhanger in http://www.trueachievements.com/AC-Revelations/achievem....htm, this achievement immediately jumps off the page. What will Desmond find in the temple? I have to know. I HAVE TO KNOW!

The next achievement might get your number with its Southie charm, personal demons, and ability to call out ponytailed blowhards on quoting Pete Garrison, James Lemon, and Gordon Wood.

Assassin's Creed III How D'ya Like Them Apples The How D'ya Like Them Apples achievement in Assassin's Creed III worth 22 pointsComplete Sequence 3.

I love a good Good Will Hunting joke as much as the next guy. Dimes to dollars that this Sequence revolves around doing something (really cool) in Boston.

Anal-retentive completionists (like myself) should take special note of the next achievement.

Assassin's Creed III Perfectionist The Perfectionist achievement in Assassin's Creed III worth 134 pointsComplete 100% of all main mission constraints.

As anyone familiar with the Assassin's Creed franchise is aware, there are often multiple different ways to "succeed" at any given mission and nailing every objective can be taxing at times and downright infuriating at others. Tread with care!

While the inclusion of Leonardo da Vinci introduced some nice gadgets to Ezio's bag of tricks in http://www.trueachievements.com/Assassins-Creed-II/achi....htm, the inclusion of Benjamin Franklin seems ripe for more 18th century techno-wizardry.

Assassin's Creed III Patent Not Pending The Patent Not Pending achievement in Assassin's Creed III worth 18 pointsCraft one of Franklin's inventions to decorate your Manor.

Franklin invented all kinds of cool things, from bifocal glasses all the way to swim fins, I can't help but wonder what kinds of awesomeness Connor is in for.

One thing that we're certain will be included in AC:III is the inclusion of new weapons including the tomahawk and bow & arrow. With that in mind, the next achievement sounds like it will make an interesting visual to say the least.

Assassin's Creed III Spit Roast The Spit Roast achievement in Assassin's Creed III worth 31 pointsPerform a double assassination using a musket.

I don't know much about muskets and bayonets (aside from you stick the pointy end in the bad guy), but this has to look cool.

The next achievement actually sent me on a goose chase for meaning.

Assassin's Creed III Whit's fur ye'll no go by ye! The Whit's fur ye'll no go by ye! achievement in Assassin's Creed III worth 13 pointsBlock a firing line 5 times by using a human shield.

I'll save you all a few clicks and tell you that "Whit's fur ye'll no go by ye!" is a Scottish saying that means, "What's meant to happen will happen." I'd say that it goes nicely with the actual achievement description.

While those are just a few highlights, it is worth noting that the highest single achievements only carry a 50G base score, so you can expect frequent, smaller unlocks. Furthermore, the game (as of now) seems to be devoid of those super-grinding achievements that can scare off your casual achievement hunter. The only possible achievement wrenches appear to be: Abstergo Entertainment, Blowing in the Wind, and Completionist. Finally, the game only has four secret achievements, so you pretty much know what you'll be getting from the get-go.

Now that we've hit you with some of our highlights, what are you excited about popping when Assassin's Creed III hits stores on October 30th (North America) and October 31st (everywhere else)?

If there's an upcoming game that you'd like to see featured in the Achievement Preview Spotlight, be sure to let us know in the comments!

Great preview!

I agree with what someone said earlier. I'd like to see a FarCry 3 achievement preview as well. While we're at it, perhaps tossing Crysis 3, Tomb Raider, and/or Bioshock Infinite into the mix as well whenever they get closer to release?

And that's why there were vast improvments not only in graphics but gameplay mechanics and progression from Assassin's Creed 1 to Assassin's Creed 2. Brotherhood was a continuation of 2 and Revelations the finale for characters from both games. They were not numbered title games and fit into 2's thread of gameplay. Assassin's Creed 3 has been in development for 2-3 years, again making the same leap that distinguished 2 from 1. Each time Ubisoft realeases a game in this franchise they become a little more intriguing, more refined, more polished. I personally am looking forward to see what is in store.

Oh and one other thing -- how can you even compare an adventure-genre game like this to a sports game? Have you even played EACH of these games to discern the differences that you are attempting to generalize? Time to crawl back under your bridge, troll. wave

This should say 'paid off' not 'fought off'.
