Achievement Preview Spotlight - Halo 4

Look, I love an underground, "little engine that could" indie-title as much as the next guy, but you all knew this was going to happen. It's time to take a quick look forward to the monumental Microsoft beast that is Halo 4.

NOTE: There has been a lot of chatter about avoiding achievement lists for "spoilers", so I promise that this preview is spoiler free.

A quick scan of the achievements reveals that you will have the standard Halo fare here: achievements for beating missions, beating the game on different difficulties, and beating the campaign solo/co-op. It's also worth mentioning that you'll have a shot at quite a few more achievements by playing on "Heroic" or higher. Those things in mind, let's take a look at a few high points.



Skulls are a time-honored tradition in Halo. Most gamers are familiar with the tropes they offer, making this achievement a nice (but accomplishable) challenge for Halo-philes.



Oh Terminals, how I love-hate you. I love that you take me deeper into the story and lore of the universe. I hate how I have to stop what I'm doing and cautiously search every square inch for you. As you can expect, there will inevitably be video guides for this in the near future. As always, my advice is to play through the game once "for funsies" and make subsequent playthroughs about nabbing achievements like this bad boy.



Alright, look, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed and I have no idea what "I \u003c3" means. What I do know is that this achievement jumped right off the page and slapped me in the face like Moe Howard. Brass tacks - This achievement shouldn't be too hard to nail down.



If you've been living under a rock for the past few months, you might not know that Halo 4 is introducing episodic co-op episodes called "Spartan Ops". These weekly operations are designed to be co-op experiences which should make taking on these missions alone a bit challenging for your average gamer.



Forge mode is one of the most amazing tools in the Halo kit. The ability for users to create professional quality multiplayer maps is unparalleled in console gaming. Thusly, this achievement is a sweet little bonus to creative types.

While the game hasn't hit the wild yet, there are a couple of achievements that look to be pretty big bumps to your TA score. Whales to keep on your harpooning radar are: Lone Wolf Legend, A Legendary Episode, and Hanging on the Combat Deck, all of which are either grindy achievements or "Legendary"-focused.*

* There are a few more potentially "high-value" achievements, but they contain very small spoilers, so I'm not including them in this piece.

There you go, Spartans, the gauntlet has been thrown down, there are NO secret achievements in this drop, so you can already take a look ahead and see all of the glory that is set to ensue when Halo 4 drops next Tuesday, November 6th.
