Borderlands 2 Update Prevents Data Loss

By Rebecca Smith, 4 years ago
Yesterday, Borderlands 2 received another title update. The update only included one fix, but I think that most of us can agree that it was an important fix all the same:

Added security to prevent data loss tied to malicious violations of the Xbox Live Code of Conduct through an unsupported third-party program.
This patch will fix the infamous Graveyard bug. Malicious users hacked save files to access a game mode that had been left in the game's coding by Gearbox. Any player who had activated this mode would be able to ‘infect’ every other player within the game. Once this mode had been activated, when the player's character died in-game, they would not be able to respawn. Instead, they would enter a free-roam camera mode. The save file would be renamed as graveyard.sav and the character would be lost.

Unfortunately, all save files that have been renamed as graveyard.sav can not be fixed as too much data has been lost. However, players who have managed to escape this fate will now be able to play with randoms in game again.

Thanks to the members of the community who sent this one in!
