VGA 2012 Recap

By Jonathan Barnes, 4 years ago
The 2012 VGAs wrapped up less than an hour ago and gamers everywhere are now starting to get excited for what's coming in 2013.

We'll be sure to get you individual stories and trailers as soon as they're made available online, but in the meantime, here's a quick rundown of what was revealed and announced on Spike!

The show kicked off with a new trailer for South Park: The Stick of Truth (Xbox 360) showing off some new bits of the story as well as some show-quality video.

While this year's VGAs seemed to be showing off bits of games that we knew were coming, the night's biggest reveal was Phantom Pain a new third-person suspense/survival game from Moby Dick Studios. While we don't know much about the game yet, it did raise a lot of questions... literally... the trailer was cut together with over a dozen questions like, "What happened?" As soon as we know more about this game (and which consoles it's coming to) we'll let you know.

Sequels were the call of the night though as trailers for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 and the reveal of Dark Souls II carved new paths.

DLC was also a big point in the evening as we saw trailers for Assassin's Creed III "The Tyranny of King Washington" and the next set of missions for Halo 4 's Spartan Ops.

There was also a bevy of new looks at games in the not-so-distant future. Ken Levine showed off new gameplay video for BioShock Infinite (Xbox 360) and Camilla Luddington (better known as the new Lara Croft) introduced a new trailer for Tomb Raider which was backed by a wonderful orchestra. Finally, a new trailer for Gears of War: Judgment was revealed which may (or may not) give hints to a nemesis from the past.

As the VGAs are still technically an award show, a few of the winners announced during the show were:

Best DLC - "Dawnguard" (The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim)
Best Action-Adventure Game - Dishonored
Best Shooter & Best Multiplayer - Borderlands 2
Game of the Year - The Walking Dead
Game of the Decade - Half-Life 2

We'll be sure to get those glorious trailers and videos posted as soon as they're available!
