Steins;Gate: Senkei Kousoku no Phenogram Dated

Limited Edition also revealed - all Japan-only, unsurprisingly

Back in late November, we informed you that Steins;Gate: Senkei Kousoku no Phenogram was announced by 5pb. The latest entry in their self-proclaimed "hypothetical science adventure" games aims to once again excite the text adventure (and likely easy-Gamerscore) lovers out there.

5pb has recently announced that a special edition of the game will be released. It is set to include a replica of the cell phone used by Rintarou Okabe. Pressing the buttons on the phone will allow you to hear the voices of Rintaro Okabe, Kirusu Makise, Mayuri Shiina, or Itaru Hashida.

Limited Edition Replica Phone

In addition to the Limited Edition news, the publisher also confirmed that Steins;Gate: Senkei Kousoku no Phenogram will be released on April 25th, 2013.

Such a pity that we still have region-locks in this day and age.
Gotta wonder when or if that will ever change...

Wow it's like going back in time to when every child had a plastic phone from burger king. Can't say I see the appeal as an adult.

You can. You just need a Japanese Xbox 360.

Whilst it is annoying that it is region locked it also is going to be in Japanese with no English options so not that big of a deal to most players.

It's completely unrealistic to expect each and every game to be localized for all regions, but it can't be that hard for game companies to make their games playable on every Xbox console.
They don't need to spend money to localize the games, nor do they need to spend money for marketing purposes, but still they make some money by having foreign gamers be able to buy their games.

For Japanese games like this, it will probably be a hardly important amount of gamers that will go after these games, but still..why exclude us in the first place? A sold game is a sold game.
And in the case of America-only games versus European consoles and vice versa, I can easily imagine there is more money to be made: the games are in English anyway!

One of the main reasons why they don't make games playable in all regions is because different regions have different laws for example Germany has a law against anything depicting Nazis so all the WW2 games must be altered there so they can be sold in Germany. This is an extreme example of that but most countries have their own media laws so region locking protects the companies from any problems. So the answer to post #1 is until all countries media laws are the same this will probably never happen same with DVD's as well.

It's Kurisu Makise, not Kirusu.

Too bad I'll never see this in Europe.

I can catch a few words here and there in Japanese, but not nearly enough to play a game like this. If it required a button press to advance the text, then it could give someone enough time to look up the characters and figure out what they were saying (barring getting a printout pre-translated walkthrough).

I myself would love to see more visual novel games as well.
