Hydrophobia Trailer and New Website Launched

Like a perverse voyeur, I've been watching the countdown on Hydrophobia's website (http://www.hydrophobia-game.com/) for the last couple of days now, anticipating the impending announcement. Today's the day, and at Noon (GMT) the countdown ended and the site launched with a brand new two-minute trailer, as well as a bunch of screenshots and concept art.

Check the link to see the site for yourself and watch that trailer, which will no doubt explain the game's plot and show off the engine and graphics far more than my incompetent words could do. But also, here's the official press release from the game's developer themselves:

Dark Energy Digital, a British developer and publisher of video games specializing in digital delivery, is delighted to announce the upcoming action-adventure blockbuster “Hydrophobia” will be published exclusively on Xbox LIVE Arcade.

“Hydrophobia” has been developed using Dark Energy Digital’s own “InfiniteWorlds” game creation system, which uses bespoke procedural technology. This allows for a AAA retail quality experience for a tiny fraction of the usual file size, pushing back the boundaries for downloadable games.

The game will also be the first outing for Dark Energy Digital’s revolutionary “HydroEngine” technology – the first true fluid dynamics engine for games. “HydroEngine” models flowing water in real-time, a true physics simulation with emergent behaviour which affects objects and characters in the scene with jaw-dropping authenticity.

“Hydrophobia” is set in the near future when the world has become massively over-populated, and takes place onboard the “Queen of the World”, a city sized ship which tours the globe and is home to the wealthy elite. An epic backstory reveals the rise of Malthusian politics as all eyes look to NanoCell, one of the Founding Fathers of the great vessel, who has vowed to develop the technology which will feed the burgeoning human population.
The game doesn't yet have a release date other than the vague "2010," but the game will be playable at this weekend's PAX East, so I imagine it won't be too long before it hits the Marketplace.

I've been really looking forward to this game for a long time now, hearing small rumblings about it every now and then, but this is the first time we've been able to see a bunch of footage from the game itself and more of a look at how the game will play. Definitely more than enough the whet my appetite!
