Madden NFL Makes Its Annual Super Bowl Prediction

Madden NFL Makes Its Annual Super Bowl Prediction

Historically, it's almost always right

Written by N0T PENNYS B0AT on 30 January 13 at 04:23

With just days to go until Super Bowl 47 kicks off, the folks at EA Sports have taken to the virtual field yet again to simulate the big game. The Madden NFL series has been used annually for nine years previously and has accurately predicted the winner in seven of those contests. When was it wrong, you ask? The incredibly fluky Giants upset over the undefeated Patriots in 2007, and then again in 2011 when the Packers beat the Steelers.

In most cases, the simulated score was also close to the final outcome. So what happened in this year's simulation? Let me paint the picture for you (Read this in your best Jim Nantz voice):

A huge third down coming up now for Kaepernick and the 49ers, down by three with just 17 seconds remaining here in the Super Bowl. Gore lines up in the backfield but Baltimore has to be looking pass here. Moss to the left, Crabtree to the right. Davis at the line of scrimmage. Suggs is pumping up the Ravens' crowd. (Phil Simms: "This place is absolutely deafening right now, Jim.") Ball snapped, Kaepernick drops back. Here comes Lewis on the blitz! Kaepernick bombs it down the field in a hurry -- HE'S GOT MOSS DEEP AND --Let's see how it turns out in the video.

The simulation also predicted Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco would finish as the game's MVP with over 250 yards passing and two touchdowns. How about that for a contract year?

Will San Francisco go 6-0 in the Super Bowl or will Ray Lewis' retirement be the party of the year? What are your predictions for the Super Bowl?

I'm happy either way - Jacoby Jones of the Ravens played college ball at Lane College here in my hometown. Patrick Willis of the 49ers played high school football half an hour away at Bruceton-Hollow Rock. Local player gets a Super Bowl ring no matter what!

They've been ditching the Roman numerals a lot this year, actually. I don't know why that is but I went with it too.

I'm just saying if they played that game nine more times, New England might win them all. But such is the nature of the sport; you need to have it on that one day and that day the Pats did not. There are no seven game series. I think it's justified to call it fluky for that reason as I don't consider the Giants the better team overall, but they definitely were that day, yeah.

Go 49ers!
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
