TA Gaming Stats - Jan 28th to Feb 3rd 2013

By Chewie, 3 years ago
This report is for the period January 28th to February 3rd 2013.

After a blistering week last week, pushing out the Stats for the whole of 2012, this week sees me and my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, suffering from exhaustion a little and struggling to pull together the article for the last week of January. It's lucky that this week's Stats continue to reflect the still dry release schedule, giving us time to collect ourselves before things start picking up again and the heavy hitters start making an impact on the numbers.

With that being said, we still need to bring you the latest and greatest Stats from here at TA, so allow me to put down my iced lemonade and ask Lester the Statisticle to pause on fanning my weary brow and pass me this week's numbers.

Games Started
20,035 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 30,617 games between them (1,778 different games).

After weeks on the chart with Hitman: Absolution, Agent 47 appears twice (four times if you count all the individual games) this week, thanks to the release of Hitman HD Pack. His multiple appearances are fitting thanks to his clone-oriented origins. However, the HD re-release trilogy doesn't quite do enough to take out the ever popular Far Cry 3 as it launches in second place with only just over 500 starters.

The UK release of Omerta: City of Gangsters doesn't give nearly enough starters (currently at 150 after 10 days) to put it on the chart. I wonder if the US release soon will give it enough of a boost for it to make an appearance in a couple of weeks.

With no other new releases, the big title of the last few months continue to duke it out on the rest of the table, including Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Halo 4 and Assassin's Creed III, with the number of starters for all of them settling between 300 and 450, roughly the same as the last couple of weeks.

With so few new titles on the table to claim the big numbers, it's not really too surprising to see a Games on Demand sale title popping up on the chart. SSX appears in ninth place, landing 300 new starters thanks to the recent EA Publisher Sale

Top Retail Games Started

The Walking Dead (Xbox 360) drops by 50 starters to 350 on Arcade Games Started, but manages to take back its first place position after losing it to last week's new release, The Cave. I'd normally say that, with numbers dropping like this, most new releases are going to secure the top spot easily. However, this week, cross-platform new release, Skulls of the Shogun, doesn't exactly set the charts alight, appearing in fourth place with only 182 starters and The Cave halves its starters from 600 to 300 to slip into second place.

Most of the rest of the chart is made up of Arcade titles that appeared in the aforementioned EA Sale, including Shank 2, which does better than its predecessor, Shank, in fifth and seventh respectively, NBA JAM: On Fire Edition in eighth and the first DeathSpank in tenth.

Top Arcade Games Started

Surprisingly, the Windows Phone version of Skulls of the Shogun (WP) does better than the Arcade version, grabbing over 200 starters for a number one position.

Last week's top starter, which has recently seen a release to Windows 8 phones, the free Shuffle Party (WP) only loses 30 starters to 130 to claim a safe number two spot.

Much of the rest of the table is made up of the same free, cheap and/or popular releases from the last few months. However, thanks to losing its Nokia exclusivity and becoming available to a wider audience, Mirror's Edge (WP) picks up over 50 new starters and leaps up into fifth place.

Games Completed
8,086 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 11,833 games between them (1,288 different games).

With so many now having completed the "Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt" DLC, Borderlands 2 (Xbox 360) drops by 250 completions and slips into second place, as Far Cry 3 refuses to drop down the table and retains around 300 completions to retake the top spot.

Although CoD: BlOps 2 hasn't really appeared on Retail Games Completed thanks to the relatively low amount of completers being spread out over the past few months, the "Revolution" DLC means that 150 of those who had completed the main game and quickly finished the DLC gives it a third place spot this week.

Top Retail Games Completed

The Walking Dead continues to lose completions, but not at a rate that sees it lose its hold over the chart. This week it drops by over 150, but still has over four times more than its nearest rival, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, with over 470 completions.

Despite the multiple playthroughs required with different characters to get the completion, almost 90 players finished last week's new release, The Cave, giving it a fourth place debut on the Completed table.

The rest of the table sees the same easy completions of the last few weeks, with all the notoriously easy SEGA Vintage beat-em-ups showing up alongside Deadlight and the almost ever present Harms Way.

Top Arcade Games Completed

With so many new starters, Shuffle Party easily takes the top spot on Windows Phone Games Started with over 60 completions. AlphaJax (WP) continues its slow climb up the table, rising to over 30 completions and moving up from ninth to fifth place. After disappearing last week, Pac-Man Championship Edition DX (WP) makes a return in sixth.

Achievements Won
54,046 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 641,723 achievements online between them (50,070 different achievements).

Last week I was a little perplexed to see a solitary CoD: BlOps 2 achievement pop up on Retail Achievements Won. However, it's no surprise this week to see the table full of achievements for the game. All nine of the "Revolution" DLC achievements make the list, with that solitary achievement from the main game, Welcome to the Penthouse, also appearing in tenth thanks to the increased number of players apparently prestiging.

Top Retail Achievements Won

It's the now expected The Walking Dead clean sweep again on Arcade Achievements Won again this week, despite the continuing drop in players, with neither The Cave or Skulls of the Shogun being played enough to appear. Again, these are achievements for the final episode and the very end of episode four so it's just a matter of time before all those players start moving onto other things.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

Although it missed out on the Arcade, the Windows Phone version Skulls of the Shogun manages to snag the top spot on Windows Phone Achievements Won. However, it's the only achievement from the game to make the table as the amount of players to get other achievements in the game drops significantly after that first one. The rest of the table is unsurprisingly made up of Shuffle Party and AlphaJax, with a lone Wordament (WP) achievement making the table at the bottom.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

After snagging the top spot last week in Genre, Action-Adventure extends its lead over Shooter this week, growing its numbers by 700,000 to over 5.5 million, whilst its rival drops by nearly 200,000. This, despite the increase in activity on CoD: BlOps 2.

It's almost a dead heat between Action and Role-Playing, with the former just retaining the edge, but who knows what next week will see.

As predicted, Puzzle jumps up its numbers following the Web version release of Wordament (Web). However, the extra 80,000 achievements only pushes it up by one place from eighth to seventh.

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre
  • Action-Adventure5,569,496
  • Shooter4,581,712
  • Action2,233,510
  • Role-Playing2,168,767

  • Racing987,586
  • Puzzle484,565
  • Adventure412,675
  • Music & Rhythm364,437

There, now that's over I can get back to napping recuperating. Don't worry though, next week will be much more exciting with the continuing adventures of unfortunate astronaut, Isaac Clarke, making a sizeable and welcome dent in the numbers.
