Square Enix Teases a New Game

Square Enix are up to something. Earlier today, a new Twitter account appeared. @Murdered was used to tweet a single image... the catch was that it was released in three different pieces. Luckily, to save you from my poor photo-editing skills, they later released the picture in its entirety.

What does this mean? Well, this was their initial tease for a new game. That game is called Murdered: Soul Suspects and it will definitely be arriving on the Xbox 360. The game has the catchphrase: "What is the hardest case to solve?"

The answer to that catchphrase is the case to find any more details about the game. We don't know what it's about. We don't know who is developing the title, although Eidos Montreal is currently the leading favourite in bets amongst gaming journalists. We definitely don't have a release window. Square Enix certainly know how to tease titles.

What we do have is a single screenshot and a description.

O’Connor, male, mid- 30s, 170lbs, 5’ 11”

Detectives aren’t supposed to get bloody knuckles, but I’ve done a lot of things I wasn’t supposed to do. I lived through it all, the beat-downs, the back-stabbing, disrespect most people wouldn’t see in ten lifetimes and I never lost a fight… until now.

"I never lost a fight... until now" makes me think that O'Connor is the dead guy. Considering "Souls" is in the title, I bet you talk/ work with the souls of the murdered to try and solve their case. Thats my guess anyway, it looks very intriguing and am looking forward to seeing more!

I'm really intrigued by this game as Square Enix has been doing really well in choosing which games they publish. I'm surprised they would tease something so late into the console generation though.

Their Twitter also seems to state they're from Massachusetts... like me! If I wasn't buried in two feet of snow, maybe I could solve this case myself. haha

Okay I did a little digging with that first screenshot of the seemingly dead body in the street. I think the game takes place in Louisiana. There is a sign for Harmony Grove Antiques. Googling that brought up two stores, one in Georgia and one in Louisiana. The one is Louisiana's address is 174 Lighthouse Point. This matches the building to the left of the antiques shop that looks like "Lighthouse [something]". Can anyone make out that second word? It looks to contain "..nkin..." so I searched those letters online too to find words that use it, but nothing jumps out at me.

Other signs that are fading away in the image are for beer, a consignment shop, and "going out of business" signs.

There is also a bait shop for fishing to the right of the antique shop so it's a town near a body of water. The real antique shop is in Slidell, LA. Maybe this is the exact location or just inspiration, but I think I'm drawing the right conclusions here.

Unfortunately the phone number below the sign reading "Palms Read" goes nowhere. I was hoping for some seriously awesome viral marketing. I'm looking for more clues but my power might go out any minute with this storm going on. I'm very intrigued, however.
