Almost a month ago, 343 Industries announced that they would be shuttering the servers for http://www.trueachievements.com/Halo-2-PC/achievements.htm on February 15th.

Apparently, the fine folks at the development studio were not looking to break any hearts around this Valentine's Day, so they've decided that the Halo 2 servers can live on for now. According to David Ellis, a designer for 343, the Halo 2 servers will stay open till June, and they are exploring further support options for the title.

While this sounds promising for an even lengthier run for the Halo 2 servers, we do strongly encourage you to create some gaming sessions and knock out those online achievements sooner rather than later.

Thanks to all the community members who sent this one in!

I wonder if they reevaluated based on increased player quantities since their first announcement. In other words, could all the boost sessions via TA be directly responsible for the extension? The world may never know.

To bad there still isn't a fix for the Family Gold issue...no reason for me to do the campaign if I can't do the online!
Look at me so I can finish!

Makes you wonder if this was planned so they could boost some more sales. Similar to the Ghostbusters' server "closure" a few months ago. :-P

But, I am glad to see this server extension. We can only hope that other developers (or whoever) will follow suit.

I would love to see previous server closures reopen for a month, so those unobtainable/discontinued achievements can be unlocked.

I'm not holding my breath though.

Might do, all the achievements are labeled as 'online required'.

I wonder if the recent GFWL outage that some people have been reporting has anything to do with the extension.

For some reason I didn't think that multiplayer achievements would be affected, I thought this just affected matchmaking?

From my understanding of the game, community run servers will still work and achievements will remain unlockable, but until I receive a reply confirming or denying this, I'll have to assume some achievements will be unobtainable after the servers shutdown
